Default Driving California Coast

Me and about 6 other friends of mine plan on making the coastal trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Anyone have any ideas of fun things for twenty somethings to do on the way. Big Sur is a must, as is wine country. Also in clude any cool bars, restuarants, beaches and just fun places to go for younger people.

We are thinking of swinging over to Yosemite on the way back but time may be an issue.

Thats a great trip. There are great views all the way up the coast.
A word of caution.. From Santa Barbara North to the end of San Luis Obispo county is heavy CHP activity. Be sure to keep it around 70mph to avoid tickets all the way until you hit the twisties on the coast.

Personally I try and get as far north as I can on the first day. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in santa barbara, but it takes too much time to drive in, park and find them. There is a nice restaurant.. nepenthi in Big Sur with great views, Carmel has some hotel/restaurant bars, pebble beach etc. Whatever you come across will be fun when your with friends. Morrow Bay has Dom's cafe which makes some pretty good cocktails. Great breakfast & lunch too.

In San Francisco there are several good restaurants all over town. North Beach especially. Depends on what your looking for.

Monterey/Carmel by the Sea are worthwhile to see, including the ocean drive along Pacific Grove. Santa Cruz, with their boardwalk area, and Half Moon Bay are also worth a stop.
