Default Destruction of LA by earthquake coming soon!

According to scientists the big one really is coming soon. When LA is laid out by the quake do you think it will quickly recover for the better or will it be like new orleans. The experts say the damage will be in the 100's of billion dollars. We sometimes forget we live in such a disaster waiting to happen.

You'll have to figure out if the waterfront starts at Pasadena or San Bernardino...If you can anticipate this, you should be rolling in dough.

I remember years ago a radio station in LA had ads from "Faulty Real Estate". The sales agent was fast-talking 'Sam Andreas'. He was selling future beach front property in AZ. He said you could be the first on your block to be first on your block. Anyone else remember that?

I remember that we used to have "fault line parties" when I grew up in the Santa Clarita valley. We would all wear our bathing suits.

Is this anything like the doomsday predictions that Florida will be underwater because of a massive tsunami/tidal wave? When I first moved to Florida, my mother freaked. I think the televangelists are running rapid again!

Destruction of LA by earthquake coming soon!

...to a theater near you!

I don't know about this one...I remember the first time I heard that "California was going to fall into the sea" (I didn't live here at the time)...it was in fourth grade.

I'm 40. (still waiting) (fingers drumming)

(running off to check outside of window) Nope! The earth is still there.

My husband and I watch all those boring (to other people) documentaries...the science behind earthquakes, tsunamis, contagion, avalanches, volcanoes, etc., etc...and EVERY one ends up with, "...but, though we have a false sense of security about the world around us, this could happen ANY DAY!"

Well, yeah, it could, or a meteor could hit the earth or Bush could roll over in his sleep and accidentally hit the Biological Warfare button while groping blindly for Laura (or whomever), but...the sense of imminence we often feel about disasters has followed with every generation before us and will probably follow for every generation after. One of these will be unlucky and have a huge quake but I can't see that we necessarily have to be the ones who are gonna get it. I mean the whole enchilada with people screaming and jumping out of windows and a girder falling on a trail of innocent school children on a field trip through South Central and OJ Simpson jumping out of a burning elevator and...(slapping forehead) D*mn. Wrong movie AGAIN.

Anyway...I really wouldn't worry overly much about it. As much as they think they can predict these things, the earth always has something up her sleeve. We'll get it or we won't...not to be fatalistic, but, well...the only other option is to move 20 bazillion people or however many are in southern and central California east. And God knows THEY don't want us!

First of all, theyve been saying this for 30 years, as far as I can remember. 2ndly, if it ever does hit, it may take time to recover but somehow I dont think as long as N.O.
