Hi, I'm currently an OC resident looking to move north to SM in about 6 months. I plan to work in Long Beach, was wondering what the commute times are like above Lb on the 405 during work hours (8-5). I would be coming from SM down to LB in the AM with the reverse commute in the PM.

Even without rush hour that's a 35-40 minute drive. Live in Long Beach. Belmont Shores is nicer than Santa Monica.

good luck with that. LB and WLA are not close, one or both of you will have a miserable commute. SM to LB is at least in hour in normal traffic on the 405. while you will be going opposite of the worst of it, it's still not easy trek to LB from the westside. maybe conisder living closer to LAX, that could easily save you 15-30 minutes each way.

I used to make that commute for 6.5 years but in reverse (worked in Santa Monica off 5th & SMB, schooled at CSULB). It's not pretty, even with all of the shortcuts I took. Expect your commute to be at least 1.5 hrs on a good day. You should consider finding something in the middle...

I had to meet some clients for a string of all-day meetings in Sept and the commute down south from the Westside was nasty & brutish. One day the morning slog was nearly 2 hours! Avoid it if you can.

It's easier to find another girlfriend than it is to make that commute work for both of you.
