Hi everyone,

I was recently laid off from my job in the LA area. I've tried calling the unemployment office here to apply for benefits but can never get through. (I can't do it online since I worked out of state in Boston prior to coming here). My questions are:

Do you need to have worked a certain amount of time to qualify for benefits?
Can I apply in person and if so are there any office within 30 miles of Culver City that you would recommend (i.e. less of a wait time).

when my wife was on unemployment and couldn't get through on the phones, she went to the office near Marina Del Rey. apparently the people who worked there were of no help, but if you used the phones at the location then you didn't have to wait on hold nearly as long.

It's famously darn near impossible to get through to EDD on the phone, but when I was on unemployment, I was always able to ask questions and get responses through their website. Head to the Contact EDD page, click on "Ask EDD," and it's pretty self-explanatory from there.
