Someone on an earlier thread mentioned a lot of positive things about Compton (I interviewed for a job not too far away, just east of CSUDH and the area didn't look so bad.)

I think I've read some postive things about Inglewood.

Isn't Watts so small that it generally wouldn't be mentioned for big jobs or housing or development?

Watts, it's poorer overall and most of the housing stock is small homes not built up to standards. Other than that there are projects, and a few nice looking housing development that are well kept that are for moderate income. There was some development after the riots. The city moved homes from across town from a neighborhood near LAX they forced people out of I guess for future expansion. Anyway some were move to Watts and sort of fenced off from the rest of the hood. This was back in the 70's and from what I can remember was the last time I passed through they were still nice.

Also there are homes near the hospital the are large and nice, looks like something out of Orange County. Now would I want to live in the area again, NO WAY.

Inglewood has some really nice area, it's mostly the part of the city that is near Hollywood Park on the south end of town that's ugly. Compton is the same, there are some decent looking areas. Overall I would pick Inglewood of the three.

Why did you choose Inglewood for this comparison?

That's what I thought you'd say. You're not helping to dispel the OC image problem when you post stuff like that.

They often don't see it as a "problem."

Violent Crime Ranking - Mapping L.A. - Los Angeles Times

Watts is ranked #8 on the violent crime list, Compton is ranked #24 (though that doesn't include West Compton/West Rancho Dominguez), and Inglewood isn't ranked.

What violent crime list? What are the communities included in the study? Could you share a link or give a print source so we can see the data ourselves. If its on CD say so, please. Thanks.
