they should make a new rule, you gotta be a resident for at least 10 years to play on that city's team. otherwise what's the point of this being the "Los Angeles" Lakers.

That would be SO unfair and I'd love it!

I think the NBA owns or controls the New Orleans Team (???). If it was owned by someone else, maybe the deal would have gone through. Not sure.

looks like the three team deal that would send chris paul to the lakers and pau gasol and lamar odom to the rockets and hornets, respectively, has been resubmitted to the nba for approval, albeit with a few tweaks:

Chris Paul - New Orleans Hornets - 2011 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com
Revised deal reached to send Paul to L.A. - CBSSports.com
http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/s...de-resubmitted

given how much criticism the league (and david stern in particular) received for nixing the trade in the first place, i'd be surprised if this one doesn't go through.

assuming this happens, then you have to figure that the dwight howard situation finally gets resolved within the next 10 days: either he goes to the nets for brook lopez and draft picks, or he ends up with the lakers in exchange for andrew bynum et alii.

so after a crazy week of trade proposals that were supposedly a done deal, only to get vetoed and then resuscitated several times, it's finally happened:

chris paul has been traded to los angeles.

the clippers, that is:

Los Angeles Clippers, New Orleans Hornets agree on Chris Paul trade - ESPN Los Angeles

Quote:
The Los Angeles Clippers have acquired guard Chris Paul in a trade with the league-owned New Orleans Hornets.

The Clippers will send guard Eric Gordon, center Chris Kaman, forward Al-Farouq Aminu and Minnesota's unprotected 2012 first-round pick to the Hornets for Paul. The Clippers will also receive two future second-round picks.
the clippers are going to be an exciting team to watch this season, but trading eric gordon is a pretty big loss. who's going to be their starting shooting guard? chauncey billups? mo williams? randy foye? at least billups plays good defense, but there's a chance he might get waived.

gordon is a rising star and borderline all-star player who is primed to have a huge season. and losing that unprotected first round pick (most likely a high lottery pick) along with gordon might haunt the clips down the road.

meanwhile, the lakers are apparently fuming about losing out on CP3, and i don't blame them:

Lakers upset with Chris Paul's trade to Clippers - latimes.com

in light of these developments, are the lakers now more desperate to trade (and possibly overpay) for dwight howard? supposedly the magic are no longer inclined to trade howard and are telling other teams that he's willing to stay in orlando, but that could very well be a bluff intended to preserve their trade leverage.

in any event, the upcoming nba season is going to be really interesting in LA.

yeah well L.A. has an attention mentality, about what's cool, whats happening, what's hot, it's all about being in the scene, the main way majority of sports fans get drawn to a sports team in L.A. is if it is winning or it has a Superstar player that is able to make highlight-reel moves, basically, L.A. is all about the hottest, big ticket in Town, like the L.A. Galaxy did not become really known or talked about until David Beckham arrived, same-thing with the Clippers when Blake Griffin arrived and more so when Chris Paul arrived, and thats why the Lakers have dominated, owned L.A. because they never go through a stretch without a Superstar player, always spoil L.A., thats why the Lakers are a Big Deal, why they Matter so much in L.A. Overall, I just hate Bandwagoners, Fairweather fans that is why
