Long commutes
Ok, how 'bout Canyon Country to either Fallbrook @ Reseda Bl. or Civic Center/Parker Center? At first will be days, later PM's or Morning Wathc.
Thanks! Great thread.
Mike
Who used to commute from Auburn, Maine to Boston 4 days a week!

Surprisingly enough, driving down Wilshire on "off hours" can be a real time saver. A lot of people avoid it because they *think* it is full of traffic -- but it isn't. HOWEVER, driving it during the day (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) is a lot slower because at that time there is a lot of traffic, both pedestrian and cars.

My son use to work in Long Beach and would commute 6 days a week from Apple Valley. About a 2 -3 hour drive one way on a good day.
He started at the ripe age of 17 and did it for almost 2 years.
Thank goodness his business moved out here!

My commute from Long Beach to Hollywood (about 25 miles) takes about an hour 1/2 - 2 hours. Could be worse, could be better. Luckily, I work in retail management, so a lot of my shifts start in the afternoon where it only take me about 45 minutes. Also, I have the luxury of taking weekdays off work and working on the weekends.

I'm wondering, is there really any place to move (in or out of California) where traffic is not this dreadful? Even on weekends when we want to go somewhere we find ourselves just sitting in traffic.

I have tried public transit which is faster on the Metro Rail and then the Red Line (subway)... until I have to get on a bus... they are pretty unreliable here and I find myself sometimes waiting 40 minutes or more for any bus to come by my stop... Why do i do it you may ask? Well, my wife commutes the opposite way to grad school, and once she is finished, we will move in closer... 1 1/2 years to go... and i am counting down every second.

I am SO glad I don't live in LA. Give me a nice, slightly run down rustbelt city any day of the week. It's not worth the smog, ridiculous traffic, Spanish-speaking illegals, and insane housing costs just to not have to shovel snow.
I know it's home to you, and that's fine! But it's not for me!

I live here and it's no longer home to me! I'm getting out of here as soon as I can. The cost of living/pay rate doesn't make the escape that easy though. I have NO idea why ANYONE would move INTO LA but I think a majority of that has been immigrants. The roads have always been bad... but now they are just UNBEARABLE! I commute from Simi Valley to Los Angeles which isn't as bad as most of you guys! It takes about an hour but is just bumper to bumper even in the carpool lane (I carpool with 2 others). It's comparable to the commute from Thousand Oaks since Simi is next to TO. Thousand Oaks is a wonderful place to live. One of the most expensive places to live but if you can afford it it's great. It is outside of LA and feels far removed. The commute will be rough if you aren't ready for it. I've only been commuting for a year now and I am already going crazy from it. I can't say it enough, I can't WAIT to move! Haha I live on these boards all day long at work in DIFFERENT states than Cali just to feel like I'm not here. I'm miserable.

Like most Californians who move, I'm moving to Oregon, but not for a year until I can save money to do so.

The only time I "commuted" to Bfield was when I missed my flight at LAX.
