People enjoy a wide variety of things LizzyNola, but that shouldn't make everything legal.
I beg to differ. Things being legal is the starting point, there needs to be strong reason to make things ILLEGAL (ie: making criminals out of everyone). We should not be making laws about anything and everything we find annoying. We do have freedoms and have some flexability to move around so it's no like you are stuck next to a chimney forever.

People should also see the very interesting video presentation by Dr Brian Moench (Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment) on how air pollution affects the brain and leads to epigenetic damage that can affect the health of future generations Moderator cut: links removed

In the San Joaquin Valley, they worked out that their rules restricting installation of new wood stoves and banning wood burning on days when air pollution is likely to build up is saving health costs of about $367.5 million to $430.6 million in Fresno/Clovis and from $189.1 million to $239.9 million in Bakersfield.

Just because someone has a right to do something, doesn't mean that they should. People who care about their health should speak up. Wood smoke has been shown to cause 12 to 30 times as many cancers as the same amount of cigarette smoke. The laws are changing to make it unacceptable to breathe significant amounts of cigarette smoke in public places. It doesn't make sense to have laws against cigarette smoke, but not wood smoke.

Fire is good? OK, there's about 7 million people in LA metro--what if everyone starts burning a fire, daily? This is going to be the hell of a mess. But no... of course only the privileged, the more affluent, who own fire places should be allowed to do this Guess what? With that concentration of people and in the basin like LA you can't have it going, without major damage, so this got to be restricted. Also, do not forget that in LA the affluence generally spreads West to East (more East, more poor), and, since predominant winds blow from West--they actually blow pollution from Western sources towards the East where it's trapped against the mountains, increasing damage to poorer regions. If someone owns affluent homes in Western half of LA and burn fireplaces--the burden will be on communities East.

But not everyone wants to build a fire everyday...

You're creating an imaginary problem where none exists - which is silly! Why create more laws to regulate something that isn't even a problem?

No, this is not an imaginary problem. Haven't you read what OP posted? This is a problem for numerous people, and not only in LA.
As to you saying that not every one wants to build a fire--simply, they can't--THANKS TO FIRE CODES--it's not legal mostly, otherwise A LOT more would try to burn, everything and everywhere, like open bit burns in yards, burning trash, etc. You're not talking about area with few-acre parcels, but high density neighborhood.
