Planning to move to LA area, working possibly in Westlake Village but want to be close enough to live music, rehearsal spots (NoHo), etc. WeHo seems cool, but it's also the toughest commute to Westlake Village. Maybe Studio City is a happy medium?

Yup. Studio City is a good bet. It's actually a pretty good place to live - very mixed crowd of young single, recently married, some with families, rich, regular and of course a lot of folks who work in the industry (actors, editors, crew, etc). It's quintessential LA - not a sleepy suburb but not a dense urban high rise jungle like the east coast, but a mix of both. Sort of an "urban suburb" if that makes sense.

NoHo, Studio City and Sherman Oaks are all good choices. You're right about WeHo being a pain in terms of the commute.

NoHo you'll get more bang for your buck compared to the 3, at least for now.

Studio City. So pretty there and you got the Armenian Deli. Oh! How I miss that Deli! Now I gotta make a commute from Culver City for that :/

Noho has the arts district but is surrounded by trash.

WeHo has too much traffic. Parking sucks.

Default Good Info

I'll drive around Studio City, NoHo, and Sherman Oaks areas when I fly out to interview. Studio City is looking like a great choice. When you say NoHo has some trash, you're talking tough neighborhoods? I'll need to scope the areas for a year or two once I'm out there - I was digging Hollywood Hills area and even Malibu but I need to scope what's allowed, prefab home or stick build, etc. I like the idea of lofts too, now I just need to plan how to be careful if I jump back on a motorcycle for some commute days.

Yes, I mean rough areas. The Arts district isn't that big right now but who knows how much it will grow over the years.

Speaking from someone who lives in the NoHo Arts district, this area is very safe. I walk to everything from live theaters, to cafes, to the gym, you name it. People who don't live in the area create a false perception because of what they perceive and not what they know. Artsy areas are typically gritty and that's a huge part of its charm. Just look at Echo Park. It's not for everyone. Some people like things sterile, I don't.

Having lived in Studio City, Sherman Oaks and now NoHo, NoHo is my place of choice because my dollar goes so much further here and it's centrally located. There's the subway and the 101,134,170 freeway interchange right at your doorsstep.

I know NoHo very well, I use to live in the valley. Yes the NoHo arts district is safe. What i'm saying is outside of the district can be rough. A lot of people stay south of Victory or even Burbank for that reason and plus of course they want to be closer to the district.

Echo park still has it's gangs.
