Hi all,

Long time browser, currently working a deal out w/ employer for a possible relocation from NYC to LA.

Yes, where would you live if:

Office in Santa Monica, have a car. Just single male - 20's.

I suppose I would prefer a walkable commute but open to driving if the neighborhood is fun/lively enough.

Budget: let's say ~$1400/mo

Looked at some apts on Craigslist in the Santa Monica and West Hollywood area but I've mostly only spent time in the San Fernando Valley area and wanted to get some advice from those who live in westside/South bay(?) area.

Thanks in advance!

If your willing to live in a tiny studio then you can do the westside (maybe). If your open to the South Bay then your golden, but (depending on the part) it can be a crappy commute. Culver City is a nice area. Lots to do and less expensive (for now) than other parts of the Westside.

1400 isn't going to get you much in the westside

If you wouldn't mind a share you can look in Marina Del Ray. Very nice, very safe and lots of things to do on property(pool, jacuzzi, gym, library ect). There are young people here and biking distance to a lot.

"Walkable commute" is a deal breaker ... LA is a driving town.

That being said, some of these might work for you:

1145 Yale St- Spacious charming upper unit in a great location
X-tra Lge 1BD + 1BA - Centrally Located between S.M. & Brentwd
Glamorous Building!! with a Gorgeous Single!! Call Today!!

Thanks all for the insight.

Ok, let's say you're willing to drive - where would you live? Knowing what you guys know now; where would you say would be the best combination of good neighbors/low gangs/low crime/~$1400/as best as you can get commute?

Thanks in advance!

my favorite neighborhood on the westside is ocean park, between the santa monica pier and venice. $1400 might get you a tiny apartment in the area, but it's walking distance to the beach and the nightlife on main st.
