I'm leaving New Orleans after 6 years and buying a home in Palmdale for family reasons. I'm fed up with the crime and constant worry that I've lived with in N. O. and I'm looking for a safe neighborhood that is family friendly. I know the West side is the best from what I've heard but are there any nice areas on the east side. Is anyone familiar with the Madeline Court subdivision on 70th east? They have some lovely homes but I don't want a bunch of gangs and section 8 around me!

If you want to avoid "gangs and Section 8", then I would suggest looking somewhere on the west side of Palmdale, preferably in area code 93551 or 93552. This isn't to say that these areas are completely gang and Section 8-free. They aren't. Section 8 can be anywhere. But, the zip codes I mentioned are very livable and have less Section 8 and gang problems than the east side zips do. You might also check out zip code 93536 in Lancaster, which is just 5 miles north of Palmdale.
