Default Commuting to El Segundo

First of all I have no knowledge of the area. I am just curious what the best area to live in if you work in El Segundo.

I currently live near Charlotte NC (where the cost of living is waaaaaaaaay below CA) so I am pretty sure I would be in for a culture shock if I do move. However I am looking at options and am curious about LA since my company has an office in El Segundo and they have been posting lots of positions there I am interested in.

Right now it is just my wife and I, no kids so school isn't a big worry. She is taking up nursing so near a hospital/college would be fantastic.

My current commute is 47 miles one way which takes me about 45 minutes but I suspect that won't be possible in LA. Amirite?

Thanks in advance!

Just wanted to add I am Filipino, she is Caucasian but it would be reaaaaaaaaaaallly nice if there's a thriving Filipino community since I've sort of been isolated with the areas we have lived in the past. It's not a necessity but would be nice.

You don't need to make a commute like that. El segundo is nice and so are surrounding areas. Rent on a 2bd/1ba apt is 1600/mo or so in most of those areas. Not sure about the immediate area, but There's a large philipino community in LA in general. Lots of philipinos in nursing as well.

Depending on your budget, you can live within a short commute to El Segundo anywhere on the westside (Marina del Rey, Westchester, Culver City, Playa de Rey) and southbay (El Segundo, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach)

I just browsed the single family homes in the neighbourhood and I almost fainted at the prices. Took me awhile to catch my breath.

I will have to work on my negotiation skills before applying for a job lol

El Segundo is fine. Many good areas in the area especially south along the coast.

The main Pilipino concentrations are Carson/Long Beach area, Eagle Rock/Glendale area, East Hollywood/Filipinotown area, North Hollywood/Panorama City area, Cerritos/Buena Park, and West Covina area. There is usually a Jollibee/Seafood city/Chowking/Goldilocks in the area. The Japanese and Filipinos are the two main asian american groups where culture and language is usually not passed to the next generation, so the communities tend to be smaller and spread around unlike a Koreatown/Chinatown.

El Segundo is amazing! Super safe, easy freeway access and close to the beach without paying MB prices!

look south of ES or north. If you do buy in ES, buy south of mariposa, away from the sewage plant and airport, but not too close to the chevron plant either. Just be picky in the actual spot... its a bit tricky.
