Default Cashing out, leaving California

This isn't a SoCal bashing.

I just wish I'd gotten in the market a couple years sooner and had more equity to leave the state with. Even with no equity, I'll still have a better chance at truly affording a house elsewhere.

I sold 3 homes at the peak and profited well but where to move to? I was born here and am an LA native thru and thru.Prices here are gonna fall hard, sales are off 50% and it is getting difficult for anyone to get a mortgage.I can see prices falling 50% easily in the next few years so I suggest to be patient.Countrywide is laying off 15 thousand people in the next few weeks and I heard 1000's where let go today.Prices in ventura cty simi, callabassas, west hills will take a big hit in the coming year.Better prices are coming to the LA area.

Default COmmon we saw the same thing in '89

Dont you people learn from History? We left 3ys ago, and live where i thought we would never live in Rural No Arkansas, and loving it, mild winters and summers, clean air and water, nice people too! IF we get bored we go to Branson Mo or Drive to STLouis, KC or Memphis, you can Gamble in Tunica MS, So many Lakes, rivers and Yes Wildlife abounds, from BLue Birds to Eagles, Turtles,Chorus Frogs to Armadillos, and Roadrunners! I told my Family ,will never move back to CA and i was a Native CA. Now we have 5.45 acres, with a nice sized home built in '96 , can SHoot FIreworks or Target practice with our 11yr old son, with no Complaints, in fact one neighbors invited us over the very 1st 4th of july we were here! SO dont sweat the small stuff , there is life after LA.CA !! Best Wishes..

Or the lack of education available to us. I've been to every state besides Maine, Hawaii and Alaska and Cali was our favorite by far. I'd rather work more and have things to do than work minimal and stare at a cornfield.

There are 50 states in the union. Each state offering something different. Clearly, not everybody enjoys Alaska, but some people love it there. No differently, SoCal is not for everybody, but neither is rural No. Arkansas. Live where you are happy, nobody is forcing people to live in California. Move to Maine or Virginia or Montana, there is so much that is beautiful and eclectic in America. Me? I need to be near coastal breezes, good food, and warm weather - even if it means paying millions for a home. You only live once, and I'd like to die knowing that I owe the bank millions while they let me live near the beach

I agree. I just see the same people always using the same argument about how LA is 1 inch from the edge of DOOM! I am well aware that there's different strokes for different folks.

Two things I never see in these articles:
1. Many of these people are retiring.
2. Many who left in the initial wave found life outside L.A. a little too idyllic and have returned. I'm one and have met many other "new" resident native Angelenos.
