We are only 7 years away from the year when the cult classic Blade Runner is set.

Los Angeles, 2019. Being only seven years away I find the movie actually comedic. So when are those pyramids going to be built. How come we don't have flying cars yet?

Still a good movie. But it pretty funny. ALthough honestly, I will say some Asian cities actually do look like that almost.

we do have flying cars. it just is not cost efficient to run them.
having bounty hunters/hit men be our judicial system is already a reality. what do u think seal hitmen do to terrorists that obama wants eliminated.
blade runner is probaby the best sci fi film ever made.

I was referring more specifically to the urban landscape of Los Angeles.

Obviously the makers of the film may have not seriously been predicting what Los Angeles was going to look like in 2019. Its just kind of funny now, that we are only 7 years away from that date.

Overall, they were not bad in predicting what would happen about 37 years later. Sure the technology is not there but the urban decay, overpopulation, decline of the city and overwhelming influx of non-American culture was spot on. The magnitude of these predictions was off, but still not bad for such a huge temporal prediction! LA is definitely not the antithesis of Blade Runner - that is for sure!

Agreed. I've seen every version made. To me the theatrical release is still the best.

Nothing says a city in decline like record-low crime rates and rapidly improving infrastructure.

Hopefully LA never achieves a built-up nature like that! I do see how some Asian cities look similar to the dystopia.
