Hello!

I'm looking at an apartment on the northwest side of downtown - near Vista Hermosa Park and Good Sam hospital (so on the westlake side of the 110 and 101). Could anyone estimate for me how long it would take to commute to Burbank? To the film studios, *just* on the north side of griffith park/the zoo.

Would it make more sense to take the 5 or 101? It seems like this would be a 'reverse commute' since I'd be driving out of downtown in the morning, but maybe the rush hour traffic is bad both ways?

Obviously I'm new to the area. Any advice is appreciated. Google says 20 minutes but that doesn't seem right!

Say at 830 am, take surface streets to the 101, exit Barham, drive on surface streets to the studios. 20 minutes isn't a stretch as this commute is 100% reverse.

On the way back, there is no reverse commute. Best route might be 134 to 5 south, take the 2 into echo park and then surface streets. Maybe 30 minutes at 5 pm

Wow, that's much better than I expected. Really just 20 minutes on the way there? And 30 minutes back, considering there's much more distance to cover on surface streets, is also not bad.

Thanks very much for the reply. Out of curiosity - why is there no 'reverse commute' in the afternoon? And do you have any idea of when in the evening traffic dies down (for example if I stay at work till 630 will I be able to miss much of the traffic on the 101?).

It's around 8 miles or so...not a far drive.

I don't know why there is so much southbound traffic on the 5 and the 101 in the afternoons.

And the southbound 101 is nearly always horrible. Many many people in LA cant qualify for drivers licenses yet still drive. They are absolutely horrible with merging. So the 101 south always backs up where it feeds off to the 110 fwy. Traffic often backs up all the way to Hollywood Bl.
