Hi,
I'm not taking this interviewing process serious yet but I do need to think about where we would live and would need a safe, fun, family area. Where are there good private schools for school kids? What community would have good family values - honestly all the Hollywood attitude and celebrity is not for us. We really don't watch T.V. much. We most likely would have a generous rental stipend. I'm very concerned about finding a wholesome neighborhood for the kids and my husband would want a very short commute. Does Pacific Palisades sound like it would work? Would love suggestions. Thanks for any input!

i think the brentwood/palisades area is great for famillies assuming you can afford it. i'd imagine decent rental homes probably start around $5k/month though.

Tons of areas to live. As BR said, totally depends on your budget. This is an expensive part of the world.

Santa Monica, Brentwood (Brentwood is a neighborhood in the City of Los Angeles - 90049 zip). Parts of Westwood and West LA (both City of LA), Malibu, Pacific Palisades.

We'd consider Catholic, Co-ed, boy or girls, and secular depending on the culture of the school. I'd really have to check the schools out with but would look for an accepting environment teaching respect, community involvement, and independence. I'd also look at academics, science and math, sports would be lower on our list. I guess the school would have a lot to do with where we would live. Currently DH has 1 hr 40 minute commute so living close to his office would also be high on our list since it would be life changing for our family. High the list would also be wholesome friendly area, moving with a family is hard enough, and we've done it before. We need to get into the community quickly to help us all feel at home.

Can you afford 30k a year for private school? Can you afford very high rent, or drop 1.5 million on a small house?

There's also Harvard-Westlake, which is a great private school. I have no idea about what its culture is like, other than that it has very strong academics.

I don't believe schools like Loyola, HW etc are as new age as the op is looking for.
