Planning a trip to LA this summer for the opening of my ship, the USS Iowa, as a museum.
Flying into LAX.
Iowa will be on display in the Port of LA.

The hotel prices seem a lil "seedy", shall we say.

Hints or tips?

Would like something between the airport and the port at a reasonable price but safe, since I can't 'carry'....

Moderator cut: no bumping please

Long beach area is looking reasonable but some hotel reviews say they're in a shady part of town.

(help?)

i've stayed at the courtyard inn near western ave just south of the 110 and it was a perfectly acceptable hotel. i've also stayed at the comfort inn on normandie, which wasn't as nice, but was also acceptable.

i'm not sure which city they are in to be honest, but they were both fairly close to the 405/110 interchange.

I'll look around, and thanks.

But 405/110 is south of LAX?

There's a motel 6 in Carson that's right off the freeway if you are on a budget. The courtyard is nicer but probably double the price. Some tourists do stay at the motel 6 (until recently it was a quality inn) because it's kind of halfway between LA attractions and Disneyland. Both the courtyard and the motel 6 are right next to the freeway, so noise could be an issue if you are a light sleeper.
