Default Possible move to LA area: Family life near Sylmar?

Hello all,
We are considering a move to the LA area. DH would be working in Sylmar. Good place to raise 15 and 10 year olds near abouts? We are looking for stability, safety and good public schools. We will consider going a bit further out beyond the suburbs for a bigger lot.
Thanks in advance!

I just moved here from TX in Nov, so I'm new to the area, but I do work in Sylmar. I've looked at a couple houses there, and I'm not too impressed. There are a lot of older, more run down homes, it's not as clean as some other areas nearby. I'm currently living in Santa Clarita/Valencia and love it, I would do some searching there. Only about 10 miles north of Sylmar. Good luck with your decision!

You have a lot of choices nearby, esp because Sylmar is a reverse commute from many of them. Burbank, La Canada, La Crescenta, parts of Glendale, even South Pasadena, Santa Clarita, Valencia. Simi Valley. All have good schools(some great), all are safe middle class or upscale areas. All depends on what you want to spend, what kind of home you want, and what kind of weather you are happy with.

All those areas are FAR better than Sylmar too!

Thanks! Hmm! What about Northridge or Glenwood? Or is it Glenhall?
I see so many cookie cutter houses on small lots. The canyons will take some adjustment but really are rural places that rare as it seems from satellite photos of the area? It would be so nice to get a horse-allowed property. What about Mediterranean style houses? Are they usually only upperscale, say 500K and up?

Don't want LAUSD. Yes, I meant Newhall.
Still sifting through all the options. Thanks for all your input! More if you want!
