Hi all,

I guess I'm a bit quirky in that I don't like "nice" areas in the sense of big lot sizes and lots of BMWs on the road.

I'm really after a living area where there's a high degree of education for the relative income level. To me a desirable area is all about the people, and one that's cheap to live in is a bargain since I can live where I want (I telecommute) I do want to stay within the general LA/north OC area though. I make about $70,000 a year and am financially frugal

Thanks for any suggestions

So basically you're looking for a neighborhood with a bunch of unemployed and underemployed liberal arts grads.

That would be Echo Park, Highland Park, Eagle Rock, and parts of Koreatown where these white lib arts kids get to slum it with the ethnics (East Hollywood also another area to slum it with the ethnics, giving you more street cred as an authentic hipster's hipster).

The employed liberal arts grads move on up to Silver Lake, Los Feliz, and maybe parts of the Valley and West Hollywood.

I'm only half kidding.

Claremont?

That city has lots of educators, professors, and highly-educated individuals.

Formal education/miseducation has poor correlation vs intellectual/economic productivity

Lots of world's wealthiest&smartest (and youngest) today are engineers who attended some lame state undergrad or were dropouts (almost no PhD grads anymore)....and some of 'em rent/buy/build mansions on Westside/Malibu when they want to retire between start-ups in SiliconVy...hell, 67yo college dropout Ellison is wealthier than anyone on Westside, likely smarter than anyone on Westside and owns chunk of Malibu as a wkend pad when he wants a change from Woodside

And LA's local "educated" tend to be financiers who are Wharton undergrad alums working at one of the few big hedge funds in CentCity/SM and naturally reside in Westside amongst peers and away from entmt industry commies/innumerates....can move to SF's Mission/NoeVy or PaloAlto if want to deal w/confused wealthy innumerate commies who drive Prius but fly via private, gas guzzling birds...

Few things are more funny and sad as a "wannabe one-percenter".

The bot is back, showing us inventive new ways of majically throwing in the Palo Alto engineer schtick into any conversation, even when entirely irrelevant. At least to us commies/innumerates.
