Hello all,

Considering taking a job Commerce, CA. Can't afford anymore than $1400 for rent... What area would be the best to move to, considering my financial constraints and that I only want to be 30-45 minutes in traffic...

THANKS!

do you have any preferences to the type of community you want to live in?

I don't want to live anywhere too ghetto...

I currently live in a nice area, I am used to a safe, culturally diverse setting with many things to do in the near vicinity...that's the kind of place I'd like to find in LA...

Live near where you work. All parts of LA (it's a huge place) have good areas and bad. Just figure out where your job will be first, and live near there if you can.

so you're saying that you like being in 100 degrees plus 100 percent humidity while a hurricane is heading straight for you? yea. sounds like fun to me. also, you must be joking about the beauty thing. FL is as flat as a pancake...not one little hill in the whole state. FL is also full of crime. my mom has many friends in Tampa where she lived for a while (she hated it there) and a few are realtors. the realtors cant keep up with people wanting to move out. so many people are moving and not nearly enough are moving in. does that show you something there?

L.A and Miami are as different as Seattle is to Jacksonville.

On topic: You might check out downtown. There are a lot of new housing options in downtown LA (lofts, etc.). You might also look at the San Gabriel Valley and towns along the I-10 heading East. No one here recommends the SGV very often, but it has a lot of safe areas to live in. You can commute to Commerce via the "surface" streets (non-freeway). South Pasadena and Alhambra aren't too far away.

I would steer clear of Compton and areas around it because of the crime rate. (You really need to check each city though because you can have a high crime city next to a low crime city -- it just all depends.)
