Beach Home as second home
Hi,
I have been reading some of the posts on Port Hueneme and I would like to gt others opinions on the community. My husband and I are looking to buy in a "brand new" development in PH, single family home that is walking distance from the beach/pier. Seems like a lovely area that is growing. Looking for a fun place to go to for weekend get aways and to rent out as well. I have checked other areas more west, but seems like we are getting more for our money in PH, and the area is still growing. Any thoughts or comments??

I tnk that you\'re referring to the area in Ventura County. I would have to not recommend this because it is near oxnard. Although Oxnard is suburban-don\'t be fooled. There are lots of illegals, crime, and gang activity. I hope you speak Spanish.
Otherwise, I would recommend any coastal town in O.C. on the drop of a dime before Oxnard.

Have you even been to Oxnard? It\'s the biggest ghetto in Vantura County. It\'s the Santa Ana of Ventura County. It\'s got nice spots, but overall the reason why it\'s less $ is becauce of gangs and illegals.
If you think Oxnard is rich, then you must be one poor cat.

I don't think it would be all that easy to rent out. It isn't exactly a hot spot and if coastal property goes down in price in other, more desirable areas, it's going to take a long, long time before it would become a destination location. If you like it and want a getaway, that's one thing; if you're thinking it would be a profitable investment in the short- to mid-term, I would give it some serious thought.

Thanks Jack Sparrow for your more positive thoughts. I live in the SF valley and I don't care where you live there is always some gang activity. Obviously I would not want to be around alot of crime. From what I see and and reading, PH has really cleaned up and continuing to do so. I believe there are always those "bad spots" of any town.

i go fishing out of there and when you drive thru you will see alot of ghetto housing, police, gansta looking folks hanging around.your best bet is to go there yourself.ventura would be a better choice ot the area around oxnard harbor.

I have not had much luck with Oxnard as well.
I know there are some very nice areas, surf spots, etc along the coast, but inland.... no thanks.

I used to date a Navy cop in Pt Hueneme. It's very different from Oxnard. It's quiet and boring. The residents there seem to like that. The young Navy blood keeps it from being a strictly retirement community. It would be ok for a vacation home if you're the homebody type.
