Default What's the equivalent to Lincoln Park in LA?

What's the equivalent to Lincoln Park in LA? I'm moving from Chicago and I am looking for a neighborhood with a population that is primarily made up of young professionals, recent college graduates. With lots of bars, late night food joints, places to get good greasy breakfast, etc.

Please respond only if you have actually lived or spent a significant time in Lincoln Park and know what I'm talking about.

Oh, I have to commute to the Chino Hills/Diamond Bar area. So does that rule out places like Santa Monica or Hermosa or Manhattan Beach? Somebody told me I will be doing a reverse commute so traffic won't be as bad (I go West to East in the morning and East to West at night) - is this true? I don't mind driving but I want to keep my commute to less than 1 hour per way.

THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH!!

Forget about it unless you drive at really off times like 5am and 9pm.

So you are planning to commute from one of those three locations to Chino hills? Because theres is not much traffic going from Santa Monica to the east on the 10 freeway. I know this because I head the opposite way in the mornings.

Old Pasadena. Fits all your criteria and is the closest decent place to your job. I'd suggest Los Feliz but it's too far IMHO.

Claremont to the east is close. It's home to the Claremont Colleges and next to it is a nice downtown area. You can also try living in Downtown LA (USC) where the commute will be counter the traffic. To the south in Orange County you can pick Orange, home of Chapman University. Orange also has a nice busy downtown in Olde Towne Orange. Commute times are 45 minutes top with traffic for all. An hour away, then you can live in Westwood (UCLA) which is probably the best college town in the metro. Traffic's a ***** and so is the rent.

BTW, LA doesn't do bars. It does clubs. Sure there are some bars but it's not saturated by them unlike back east. Three bars seem to be the maximum for a given 'hood.

Sadly, not to the extent of the old days. This is something I miss about the old L.A.

Which sadly play too much hip hop.

There are some areas that have more than three bars. Santa Monica, Westwood, West Hollywood, Hollywood, Silver Lake, and Echo Park come to mind. I suspect this is also true in Studio City.

There really is not a Lincoln Park equivalent. Most of the places listed are more like Schaumburg with an urban feel and are simply too far. Los Feliz/Silver Lake is more like the Bucktown/Wicker Park area, especially Silver Lake. Old Pasadena might be the closest to what you are looking for.

LA does bars... i just went bar hopping last night. anyhow pasadena is the spot. you can head to DB from pasadena very easily and it has art, music, diversity, night life, family life. except its kinda expensive sometimes.
