Does anyone know what the mass of pinkish flowers were? What a beautiful burst of color. You have a knack for getting some really good shots.

Thanks! I live in colorado and every time I go to Southern California, I am blown away by the plants. I mean I literally am amazed by the purples, reds, blues, yellows, greens...it really is so amazing. Funny how you never hear about that in guide books or whatever. As soon as I get there, the smell of flowers and cool, rich ocean air carresses my senses.... It is so beautiful.

I always trip out on how you get your candids. And how many people you get that have no problem smiling.
How do you do it? Do you talk to them first, or do you just come across so many people who don't mind having somebody put a camera in their face?
I'm always shy about going in for portraits on the street. I feel like somebody's going to hassle me.

That's my feeling too, although it might not be always true.

Hello,
Excluding the warm smile I always give, I rarely communicate with my subject. IMO, the smile makes a huge difference and thaws the ice tremendously, thus allowing for such photos to be taken.
I also I don't make them feel threatened or as if I'm doing this for advantageous purposes. And I've been told I get "let off the hook" and appear much less suspicious due to my rather ambiguous appearance (I'm of a mixed background), relative youth and Spanish-speaking skills.
Hope that helped some...feel free to ask all the questions in the world; for some reason, I rarely get inquiries or even complements on my blog.

And Angelenos are a lot calmer and nice than how most people stereotype us to be. The Beverly Hills, Palos Verdes, Pacific Palisades, etc. residents can be, but even most of them and almost everyone else in the city are very nice.

It did actually. Thanks a lot. I've been shooting a little bit on film, but I just found my charger for my old Canon 10D so I'm going to be going out to shoot more.
I've visited your blog, and will definitely hit you up on there if I need advice.
