Nice shots - odd question though...
Nice shots so far, folks!
Unless there's someone in the construction industry in here you may not be able to answer this, but after seeing some of these pics a question popped into my head...
California and L.A. in particular have some of the most strict building codes in the U.S. A lot of these new buildings in these pics are what he have going up typically here in Atlanta - condos with floor-to-ceiling glass walls on the outer shell of the building. It seems that old time standard windows that are cut out of walls with wall space no longer exist. Everything is floor-to-ceiling windows now.
How is that safe in a heavy earthquake zone? First of all, in a heavy quake, if the windows break you literally lose your entire outer wall of your condo. The windows aren't cut-outs, so poof - the entire outer wall would just collapse. Second, I assume they're using tempered glass that just breaks into a lot of small pieces for this? Or laminated to prevent it from breaking? etc.? Anyone know the specs?
I like most of the new artchitecture. Being scared of heights I'd have to have some sort of half wall near my windows though or I'd never be able to stand close to them. LOL
