I am 34, married with 2 kids and have accepted a new job in Los Angeles. I'd like to live in a White suburb, do you have any recommendations?
Hi richard. This is an incredibly old post and I am 95% sure you wont read it. I am black, but I dont take offense to your inquiry, at least not at this moment.
My answer to you is simple. Use zillow, google maps, windows local live, and wikipedia. I am sure you are a smart man and will be able to figure things out. Zillow will tell you which areas are more expensive. google and windows will tell you the names of the neighborhoods. Lastly, wiki will tell you about those neighborhoods. You can also use the US census and other websites to help you in your goal. You can also use this very website to find demographics once you locate a city.
If you want to know about traffic, just go to windows local live. They have all the live traffic you can handle. Actually, about 6 websites are dedicated to live traffic sensors and cams.
I am moving to an all white neighborhood (it breaks my heart) in manhattan beach. It wasnt looking for one, but I found one.
Use zillow, google maps, windows local live, and wikipedia
Wikipedia is a great idea; I'm a amazed it never occurred to me (I tend to use Google and pull up incredibly optimistic squibs written by the town publicist). How does one access Windows Local Live (I'm on a mac, but own 3 PCs that I could hook up to my router)? I assume this is some network of "traffic-cams" where one can spy on the routes they'd take. FWIW, my wife and I go the opposite way of Richard; we don't really give a **** about "races", but have gotten spoiled living in NYC with its carnival of cultures and would prefer a neighborhood with as much cultural variety as possible (gang culture excepted...)
[quote=Richard Beddington]Because in America people are free to live wherever they wish and I wish to live in a White area.
Would you be asking the same question to a Mexican or Black if they wished to live in an ethnic neighborhood? I don't think so. That would be politically incorrect, while it is PC to harrass me for wishing to live in a White area. I am not some evil racist, just a regular White guy who wants to live in a nice, White suburb.
OMG I love it........thanks for speaking your mind, which so many white Amricans are afraid to do any more!!!
chupie, please re-read the whole thread here. Posting about demographics and the advantages/disadvantages of their predominating in assorted areas is the topic that can help people garner info about Los Angeles. I posted my take on things to help people understand things here, not drive wedges with polemics. L.A. does not have areas of one demographic anymore, just majorities. I consider myself an American, not a (fill in the blanks) hybrid American, and wish others would do so too for social cohesion to help, as opposed to balkanization of our country. That goes for you too.

local.live.com is how you access windows local live. Also google caltrans or sigalert to find more traffic cams. I have more if you need them.
There are culturally diverse neighborhoods still. West Culver City isnt bad at all, Los Feliz and Silver Lake seem to be a decent mix. Also, Torrance (about 10 miles from LA) is safe and diverse. The San Gabriel Valley is also pretty diverse and fun in some parts but traffic will be murder. The region around korean-town is also good.
Wikipedia can be a great tool. Also, in local.live.com, you can zoom in really far, and all of the sub-neighborhoods (not cities but neighorhoods), come up. You can use zillow to hone in one home prices, and then wikipedia the neighborhoods name to get info on it.
Good luck.
PS: San Francisco, NY, and chicago are the best for ethnic culture. LA is quite far behind but much better than other places around the country.
: yo bro i was born and raised in L.A. and i am white. Dude this city is very diverse it has alot of race hispanic black white everything. There is white neighborhoods in L.A. Bel Air, Beverly hills, malibu, hermosa ,redondo, manhattan beach there are pricy and white. I lived in downey when i was in high school a kinda rough area not to from south La and east la. If you are looking for an affodable white neighborhood in the city of angels u wont find it take it from a white angeleno who has lived from downey to santa monica from reseda to anaheim i lived everywhere it really depends on how much commute you want to deal with Anaheim in orange county is a very nice place to live alot of hispanic but dude this is Los Angeles who cares what race a person is but i get that you want your kids to live in a nice neighborhood. Good luck enjoy the city of angels peace out CALIFORNIA LOVE
There aren't ANY middle-class white neighborhoods?
I must say I never knew this. Infact, I find it a very alien idea! Where I am now (Long Island, NY) has VERY distinct neighborhoods. There is not one black person in my neighborhood and never any when I went school. Very few (if any) hispanics either. There are however some Asians, but they don't pose any threat and only seem to raise the housing market. Blacks and hispanics have their own areas, some being more affluent than others. And believe it or not, there are no outward threats of racial tension. Everyone seems just fine with where they are. NOTHING like LA
Maybe it would've better if LA were like that too.
Anyways, after hearing all the negative things being said, I'm getting a little scared and depressed. I have to relocate to LA myself and now I don't really want to come.
BUT since I must, I really would like to find a pre-dominantly white neighborhood also. Asians are fine because they are safe, but was hoping for less hispanics (mexicans) and no blacks. But from you are explaining, it looks like it will be hard to find such a place for under $1 mil. : (
Yeah, it may be racist, but just look at the statistics. Certainly I never want graffitti in my neighborhood let alone my sidewalk.
Well, if I haven't p*ss'd off enough people, I was wondering if I could get advise which is better area to buy. Specifically I will be looking at Arcadia or Torrance. Are they good areas, which is safer or better? I am looking for $800k - $900k, is that enough?
Edit: Can this amount buy 2,000 sq ft + in a decent area?
You should also check out the San Gabriel Valley area.....Glendora, San Dimas, Claremont, La Verne, and Rancho Cucamonga. They are nice areas a bit east of Arcadia. Arcadia is extremely expensive.
Richard ~ You should check out Coto de Caza. It is approx. 90% White. There may be four or five Black, Hispanic or Asian persons, but their hair is dyed blonde so you'll hardly notice. Oh, and don't be alarmed by the abundance of brown skin, full lips big boobs, and big hips (popular since J.Lo)you might spot in the area - those are just typically tanned, multi-plastic surgeried, permed O.C. peeps... still White as far as the census is concerned. Your "home"... er ... "house" will be nicely appointed, about 3,000 sq. ft. and will cost you about $1.2 million or you can lease one for about $4,200. For that price, look at what else you get: a community surrounded by gates with its very own country club, a remote to open and close the entrance gates {gasp}, a big binder full of rules/regulations you must abide by (i.e., what to wear at to the club, what color to paint your house and what type of landscape to put in your backyard - the usual, most important things); cozy living with about 14,000 other like-minded residents. All this within an 8 mile radius - what else, on earth, could you ask for?

Well, I think the only "white" suburb left in the SouthBay would be Manhattan Beach but that may as well be PV. All others are pretty much diverse (some more than others). If you are looking for a nice community you can find it in the South Torrance area. Schools are good, but the house prices reflect it.
Wow, Fast Film, what neighborhood do you live in? Sounds awful.
I've lived in LA since 1984 - in West Hollywood, Hollywood, Echo Park, Silverlake and now, West Van Nuys, and I haven't experienced the same as you. My relatives live in Torrance, Manhattan Beach, Gardena, and Sherman Oaks and they seem to do well too. My parents, living in Hawaii, have experienced more crime than I have.
Calabasas is a good, white, rich neighborhood if you are a non-smoker. Smokers are not welcome in Calabasas or Santa Monica. (I'm not a smoker but my BF is.)
