Most people who live in that area send their kids to public elementary schools and private secondary schools.

The South Bay area is an incredibly nice place to live. Much nicer than Beverly Hills, Malibu, etc... Good schools, good people, good living!

man most of these posts are so depressing....
I may get a job in Thousand Oaks (is that even considered still part of LA? I don't think so .. please correct me).
I was really looking for a more culturally/enthically more diverse environment compared to where I am now (Ohio) and TO actually seems too white for me :-) .. though I suppose compared to Ohio it won't be (?)
TO seems super expensive .. anyone have any idea how much one has to minimally make in order to be able to afford a decent home in that community?
And if I was looking for a more ethnically diverse setup nearby ie no crazy commute .. what communities could be recommended?
Thanks!

Santa Clarita is very white - I used to call it... "whiteyville" - they have great schools and parks. There's a metro that goes into downtown L.A. - traffic is brutal - but that's the case anywhere. I don't know of any other areas...

You have a right to live in whatever neighborhood you wish. This really depends on where you work, however and, even more so, your budget. The 'whitest' cities in LA County are Malibu and Manhattan Beach. These are million-dollar neighborhoods. However, Torrance is still mostly white w/ a large percentage of Asians. You'll find 'cracker box' tract houses w/ detached garages... lots of shopping, clean-adjacent air and beaches as well as very low crime. These houses average about $650k (roughly), but aren't very large. Northridge, Granada Hills, Chatsworth, Arcadia are all possibilities. Cerritos is an option (closer to Orange County), but it's predominantly Asian. It has better performing schools than these other white neighborhoods.

Hello
Hey I came from Cleveland Ohio, LA can't be that bad, there are murders, rapes, car jacking, all over the US. You can't segragate yourself from any of it I live in a small town in Arizona, and we just had a 17 year old highschool girl murdered by two mexican teenagers also 17 years old, they stabbed, beat, and lit her on fire.. Come On people its every where you go, you just have to toughen up and deal with CRIME, it doesn't go away unfortunately! We just need to get along with everyone or teach the bad a lesson.. Working in Downtown Cleveland, I am pretty much not afraid of anything anymore!
Have a great Day
D

Let me remind you that to say that Mexicans come back to murder and rape is a stereotype. Not all immigrants are Mexicans, immigrants come from all over the country. In California, the Latin-American immigrants are the ones that take the low-wage paying jobs like farm working, factories, restaurants, and housekeeping. They come to work hard and provide a better living for their families.
"In Chicano folklore, Aztlan is often appropriated as the name for that portion of Mexico that was taken over by the United States after the Mexican-American War of 1846, on the belief that this greater area represents the point of parting of the Aztec migrations. In broad interpretation, there is some truth to this in the sense that all of the groups that would subsequently become the various Nahuatl-speaking peoples of central Mexico passed through this region in a prehistoric epoch, as attested by the existence of linguistically related groups of people distributed throughout the US Pacific Intermountain region, the US southwest and northern Mexico, known as the Uto-Aztecan-Tanoan group, and including such peoples as the Paiute, Shoshoni, Hopi, Pima, Yaqui, Tepehuan, Rarámuri (Tarahumara), Kiowas and Mayas."

But, at the same time I want to find an area with a good school system (I have a 9 and 15 year old). Plan on renting for the first year while I get to know my sales territory. Then, buying a 3 bdrm next summer. I am also an actress and want to live close enough to audition. Burbank, Glendale, and Norco have been suggested to me. Any thoughts?
