Good schools and housing near Century City.
I will be moving to LA early next year from overseas with my daughter who is 11 years old. Ideally I would like to live within 30 minutes driving time from Century City. Can anyone please advise me which are the good areas around there with good junior high/middle schools? (She is currently in a British International School) All help greatly appreciated!

The best public schools closest to Century City are in Beverly Hills. There are also several good private schools nearby too.

If you are moving into the LAUSD zone, consider checking your zoned schools.
This tool will help you determine the schools for your home address: School Finder
After doing this, use Greatschools, Schooldigger, and other sites to determine the reputation of the zoned schools.
Be very careful in LAUSD, as the district has a lot of violence-clogged schools!

And the LAUSD areas just south of Century City are in the area for Hamilton High, which was ridden by violence, racial tension, gangs, etc. long before ANY other school on the west side was! To send a kid there would be an act of child abuse.

Some areas formerly zoned to Hamilton HS were rezoned to Fairfax HS, University HS, and Venice HS for 2006-2007, but this ONLY applies to 9th graders. The new zones will be "phased in" as years pass.

Fairfax is just as bad. However, students living within the Hamilton and Fairfax attendance areas do have preference in getting into Palisades Charter.

Where do kids in Cheviot hills go to school? That seems like a good family-centric area.

Each home in Cheviot Hills is assigned to the following schools:
Elementary:
* Castle Heights ES for some addresses
* Overland ES for some addresses
Middle:
* Palms MS
High
* Hamilton HS
I would check to see how many families opt for alternative public schools, public schools serving other communities (such as Palisades Charter HS), and private schools.

Some time in the 70s.
As for Cheviot Hills: that's one of the many west side neighborhoods that's becoming child-free, although this trend is not limited to LAUSD areas. I see it in Culver City and Beverly Hills and even in parts of Santa Monica.
