I have been reading the forums for a while now and appreciate all the information everyone has shared. I received a job offer and the position would be in West Hollywood. My husband and I (no children) should be coming out there soon to look for rental options. We are coming from Michigan and live in a rural area now so it will be a huge change for us. I was hoping to get some info on where we could start looking. Our budget would be under 1,700 for a 1 bedroom and I wouldn't want the commute to be longer than 1 hour. We would also like to be in an area that is safe to walk at night. Any hotel suggestions for our upcoming trip would also be appreciated. Thanks

my brother lives in a decent building near Cedars Sinai hospital for $1600/month. i'd look within a 5 mile radius of your office (but try to avoid the valley), otherwise your commute will be bad considering there is no freeway access to west hollywood. west hollywood itself is very nice and safe, as is the nearby miracle mile. even some parts of beverly hills can be affordable. if you can't find anything in those areas, maybe look south of the 10 freeway in palms or culver city.
