I’m in the process of moving to Pasadena in a few weeks. At the same time, my company is allowing us to work from home 3 times a week. That means that I still have to commute to the office twice a week.

Currently, I live close enough to work that I just take the side streets and can be there in 20 minutes.
It’s been over 10 years since I have to get on the freeway to get to work, so I’m clueless as to the current weekday traffic pattern, especially between Pasadena and WH.

My options for days to commute are as follows:

Option 1 (Monday, Thursday)

Option 2 (Tuesday, Friday)

Option 1 doesn’t seem that great to me since I’m assuming Monday will be a nightmare. I also hear my co workers who use the freeway complain how traffic on Thursday is the worst (especially getting home).

So right now, I’m leaning towards #2. Not sure about Tuesday, but I don’t think it will be as bad as Monday. As far as Friday goes, I always hear on the traffic report about “Friday Lite”—although, it might not apply to the freeways I’ll be taking.

If you were me, which options would you choose?

i've found mondays have the lightest traffic and thu and fri are the worst. i would go with option 1 if it were me. friday light from my experiences is only the AM commute, the PM drive is probably the worst of the week.

Option 2 will (usually) be your best bet

Option 2. I lived in Southern California and have commuted that route. Monday is the lightest traffic and Thursday is the worst. Traffic will be very heavy on 134/101 in both directions from 6:30-9:30 AM and from 3:00-7:00 PM in the evening. If you can, take 210 and then 118 and swing down one of the north/south streets in the SFV (such as Balboa or Topanga Canyon). It is longer, but will likely be less congested then 101.

Is there a reason you choose those two options? I think the best commute days would be Tues or Wed and Thursday, I don't like Friday at all, but Monday isn't too bad. Of the two you have listed I think Mon wourl be better. It seems Monday is a popular day for those traveling on business to be gone, thus the freeways may not be as busy. I guess though, this could apply to Friday as well? Regardless, you are only doing it twice a week and if you can adjust your hours at all, to eliminate the early rush you probably are not going to find the commute all that bad.
