Default Metro to extend rail and Orange line hours of operation on Fridays and Saturdays

Metro plans to extend Friday and Saturday operations for all trains to 2:00 AM and Orange Rapid Bus line operation to 2:40 AM, starting July 27: The source - Metro to run all trains and Orange Line busway until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights!!!

This is in response to requests not only from late night patrons but also workers. Although the Silver lane is not included at this point, Metro is looking into extending that as well.

According to FM 89.3 KPCC's report, which references the above source article, Metro is "looking into the possibility of offering 24-hour service."

Seems like they would have needed to extend operations later than 2:00 AM to allow for time between closing and getting to the station. Now, we'll have to see if there is actual demand to match the clamor. Good times.

This is awesome news. When I visited last month, transit shutting down around midnight was the only thing I didn't like. But it was on-par for almost any city that isn't New York.

D.C. also does this with their metro system on weekends.

I can't wait for the Foothill Gold Line to reach my area in 2015. I will be riding that train all day and night long.

It's a shame they can't run the trains 24/7.

24/7 would be ideal. might as well make the bars 24/7 too. or at least have them stay open till 4.

If you look at the train schedule for Sat/Sun on metro.net, most of the rails start at 4:30-5am. The Gold line indicates the first train is at 3:40am from Union Station. The only problem of doing the last 2am train for some people are no bus connections for hours unless your bus has owl service. In another country I lived in, when the last rail hits the last stop (around 1230am), there are usually dozens of taxis waiting outside, but you have to find the one that will head to your direction and negotiate a non meter price (usually double the meter rate). Taxis are not easy to flag down and not affordable in Los Angeles because of distance, but if there are taxis waiting at the rail station, I wouldn't mind spending some money to go that "last mile" home.
