Question Searching: Perfect map of Los Angeles County

Hello everyone,

I am from Europe, and fell in love with Los Angeles since I first visited this magic place in 2008.
I just have a short question to all the experts here: Im searching for a good Los Angelels County map that shows the name of every valley, every canyon, every hill, every mountain, every neighborhood, every street etc. of Los Angeles County.
I searched amazon.com, but all that I could come up with was the "Thomas Guide Los Angeles County" ... but, at least to me, it seems that this guide lacks any topographic/shaded relief/terrain maps. And thats actually what Im looking for.

Please, can anyone here help me? I spent countless hours in searching for a guide/map like that. All I want is a book that has (large scale) terrain maps of Los Angeles County ... maps that include places like the San Gabriel Valley, Cahuenga Valley, Laurel Canyon etc.
Google Maps (terrain) looks great, but even that one doesnt really show where (for example) the San Gabriel is located. L.A. Neighborhoods, on the other hand, are being displayed perfectly ... you can even see the (more or less) exact borders. There must be a book/atlas/map of the whole Los Angeles County that combines all of that somewhere out there! Do you have any recommendations? Id be so thankful!

US Geological Survey (USGS) Topographic Maps | Los Angeles County GIS Data Portal
The USGS Store - One stop shop for all your maps, world, United States, state, wall decor, historic, planetary, topographic, trail, hiking, foreign, satellite, digital

You are likely not going to find something with political and topo data on the same map. Thomas guides are great, and highly recommended.

What do you need such a chart for?

Thanks, I also checked the USGS, but there doesnt seem to be any releases of books/maps from them ...
I need those maps, because Im quite interested in the history/development of Los Angeles ... I read a lot about that city/county, and whenever I hear about a certain valley/canyon, I like to know where it is. Thats why Im searching for a handy map with all that information in it.
Can anyone help here?

Those are going the way of the "map store".

Distant Lands in Pasadena (a city adjacent to Los Angeles) has been a popular physical store for travel books and maps. Go to their website to ask them by email whether they have what you want. I don't have any connection with them besides peeking into their store in Old Town Pasadena. They are reputed to be expensive although given their location, that's understandable. Back in the day, my friends would go to outdoor stores for topo maps of the local mountains. Maybe check REI?

Your last resort may be a used bookstore. Used bookstores often have a section with books about Los Angeles/California/the West but I can't really point to a specific store besides Caravan Book Store, a classic dusty used/rare bookstore in Downtown Los Angeles. Looks like they don't have a website. Check their Caravan Book Store - yelp review to see if it looks like it may have what you want. Address and phone is listed there.

I vaguely remember mention in this forum of an old map archive? Maybe some map collector association?

Good luck.

Thanks for your detailed input, drunk on kool aid ... I checked the Pasadena store, but it doesnt look like they have anything close to what Im searching for ...
I still cant believe there isnt a great topographic map guide for the biggest county (regarding the amount of people living there) of the US!
