Yeah, a couple of miles north.

It was reported on CNN, which is a bit surprising.

Maybe they are desperate for a story - any story.

My windows rattled for about 3 seconds, but I didn't feel the 4.1 today.

There have only been 2 significant around here earthquakes since Friday.

Not much point in talking about all the little 2.6's and 3.1's.

Exclamation We are due for a big one

Since 1899 (and there have been quakes before that but not recorded), the Los Angeles area has had a major earthquake approximately every 19 years. San Jacinto had a 6.7 in 1899 and a 6.8 in 1918. Long Beach had a 6.4 in 1933. Kern County had a 7.3 in 1952. I clearly remember feeling the San Fernando 6.6 earthquake in 1971. The Northridge 6.7 earthquake was 20 years ago; I clearly remember it too.

There was a 7.7 earthquake (preceded by 2 strong quakes) in Iquique, Chile (4910 miles from Los Angeles) on April 2. There was a 6.6 earthquake near Granada, Nicaragua (2544 miles from Los Angeles) on April 11. Today there was a 7.2 earthquake near Mexico City, Mexico (995 miles from Los Angeles). They are moving in this direction. If the pattern continues then we might get a strong earthquake in about a week. The most likely area is the San Andreas Fault east of Orange County and San Diego County, but it could happen anywhere.

I am not a seismologist, I am just someone that has lived in this earthquake country for nearly 60 years. Except for the facts of the past, everything I say is speculation. I think however that now is a good time to prepare as much as possible.

Anyone scared of a big earthquake should move now and leave the water for the rest of us.

The 7.2 in Acapulco this morning comes a little bit after a big one in Nicaragua and an even bigger one in Chile. It looks like it's moving up the coast! I sure hope whenever it strikes that I am in my car on an open road with nothing to fall on me. This has all been pretty crazy.
