My partner and I really enjoy the beach lifestyle that the two places provide. However, we are nervous that the people may not be as open minded as many parts of LA. What do you all think? We have looked at a few places, and the landlords seem sort of taken back that we are gay. Should we give up on living down there? We currently live in West Hollywood, but have grown tired of all the "Industry Types"

Try Redondo Beach - they seem less "uptight" and Stepfordish there, and they have the Dolphin on Artesia, which I believe is the only gay bar in the South Bay. I have heard it referred to as the "Gay Cheers".

Are you gay? Or are you gay gay? It might make a difference even for the more tolerant places.

Gay or Gay gay ??? HOLY MOTHER OF CHRIST... I swear I would die laughing if anyone asked me that question....

My partner and I live in Atlanta, GA and I have to say that we have NEVER experienced any type of discrimination or animosity .... If when we move to LA and we do experience that I will really be regretting the move.... We are currently in the deep south for crying out loud.

I will never hide who my partner is, NEVER represent us as anything but a couple and if someone will not take my money because of that I would much rather not live there... I am dumbfounded that this an issue.

How do the landlords know you are gay? They could just as easily assume that you are roommates.

I think you'll find the people far open minded in So Cal than just about anywhere else in the US. STAY away from the IE, not so open minded there.
I really don't see this being an issue all smart people know gay couples have far more disposable income than a straight couple. You're a better risk than a family of four thats for sure

You have nothing to worry about. Both Manhattan and Hermosa are excellent places to live. I dont think you'll find it as fun or trendy as WeHo, but I think you'll like it.

Money might not matter to many landlords, many of whom are instinctively conservative.

I too went househunting with a friend. The landlord was soo effusive about how gay-friendly his apartment was. Oh the gay things you can do with larger kitchens and the small dog park in the courtyard. Except we're not gay. So I guess it's a hit and miss, one extreme to another.
