Default Old Town Torrance to UCLA? (advice on commute)

My boyfriend and I are moving in September and are looking at some cute places in/around Old Town Torrance. What can I expect in regards to traffic to and from UCLA? I will need to be at school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays (classes start at 10am TuTh and 12pm Wed.) I will be done at 6pm each night (but plan to leave around 7-8pm because I will work out). I will need to go to campus to practice as well (music major) but can plan my practice schedule around traffic I suppose.

Also, my boyfriend will be commuting to Irvine, Newport, Costa, etc. 4-5 days a week around 1-2pm in the afternoon and coming home around 8pm. I will also be doing this commute 1-2 days a week as well.

SUGGESTIONS? Thoughts? I'd love anyone's input in terms of areas, commuting times, etc. We have no idea what to expect.

The commute won't be that bad at those hours (typically) so just take the 405 all the way up. 35 minutes (an hour in heavier traffic) most likely.

Also, Old Town Torrance is quaint but a bit boring. Have you thought about Manhattan Bch/Hermosa Bch/Redondo Bch or even Long Beach/Belmont Shore?
