The anniversary of the Manson murders is coming up so I featured some photos of Sharon Tate's former LA house at 10050 Cielo Drive on my weekend blog.

Have a look:

Thanks for posting, that was very informative. We always hear so much about the crime, but so little about where the crime took place. Even if I had the money and that house was still standing, as much as I love Benedict Canyon, I'm not sure I could ever live there.

Smile Seeing it...

It just makes the crime that much unreal. Why didn't the people run and hide?

What a sick event! It makes my stomach turn.

I would not live there. For free or for any amount of money paid to me.

I think that the cites of horrible, grisly and tragic events do not make good homes, and worse; may carry residual energy. Just as Trent Reznor moved out (and it does not surprise me) because of the home's past, we don't know what other reasons their might have been.

It's just a horribly negative place.

That being said, it's a much prettier home than the ostentatious monstrosity that replaced it.

It looked great! Just sad that her life ended like that.

Reznor took the front door with him, apparently. The one that the Manson murderers wrote on.

IIRC, he used it as the door to his new studio in New Orleans.

When I was in LA as a 21 year old my friend (former college room mate) took me past the house. It felt so sad.

The summer that it happened I was almost ten, and on vacation with my family. I think it was the first really horrible crime that I was aware of, and for me at least gave a creepy feel to the rest of the Summer.

I'm originally from LI, NY - about 20 miles from the Amityville Horror House. Two years ago they were selling the house for 1.5 million. And that's another place I would never live in.

As all teenagers do, we did drive by it. Why anyone would ever want to live in places like that - it's just beyond me.

If Renzor was upset by the house's history. why on earth would he want the door?

Anyone know or have a guess?

Coincidentally, I took the Dearly Departed tour called "Helter Skelter" last week. It was a 3.5 hour tour of the Manson murders. They take you to the LaBianca house, take you to a bunch of other places, and follow the route that the kids (Tex et all) took to & from the Tate house. Plus, of course, we saw the Tate house. (you don't go to the ranch, of course, as it's too far away... but he shows photos & video of it)

It was so sad & horrifying. My husband has studied the murders, and he really wanted to go on the tour. I felt a bit weird about it, but I have to admit that it was fascinating and informative. At the end of the tour, Scott (the tour guide and an aficionado of the case. He made a documentary about which I haven't seen but my husband said was excellent) gave everyone a piece of the Tate fireplace that he got when they remodeled the house. I didn't take it (felt weird), but my husband did as a memento.

But, yeah, if you're interested in the case at all... I highly recommend the tour.
