Does this have any basis in reality and is there really such a vapid culture among the women in LA?

Although it's kind of cute, I don't know if I could take it for more than a couple of years (I am moving to the LA area next year)

I know this has nothing to do with the location itself but was just wanting to get a sense of culture for those who live there. I have lived in the Northeast (mostly) and the midwest as well. Thanks.

Really old movie. Kindof like "I Love Lucy" old.

That was a blip in time, in the '80's. There's another thread in here that decried the use of the dreaded verbal crutch "like", sprayed all over teenage girls' speech like a verbal malathion, whose origin can be traced back to the SFV valley girls. A visit to your local mall virtually anywhere may substantiate that this is ongoing. In between tweets.

Nick Cage was a reasonably enjoyable actor back then. Long time ago.

I'm sorry to hear that. To me, talking to other people is more important than a career. Which would you put a higher priority on, having friends you can trust with your life and a mediocre career, or having a great career but turn out to be a horrible human being?

The culture I saw in "Valley Girl" which I was wondering about was a little TOO much talking- aka shallow and ditzy women! But I see this is no longer at issue.

I'll bet that people open up more when they don't have some place to get to- for example, in church, or social clubs, or at the beach (??)

Are you serious? Could you not tell that film was from the 80's?? That was over 20 years ago. It's now 2012.

No, I think all the valley girls have left the san fernando valley. Like it or not, they left a lasting legacy in their val speak.

As I said in another thread, the Valley Girl is alive and well. She's Latina these days but she still exists.

Who said anything about race? Please don't be racist. This is a valley girls topic and the same valley girls of the 1980s that were in the movie, are gone.
