I wouldn't know Dior or Swarovski crystal if you beat me with them. How do you know these things and why do they matter?

I remember reading about some rich guy who was really depressed about being the 10th spot on the Forbes top ten wealthiest people!

Oh well, I do heed what a wise old bird told me years ago...

"Don't compare your insides with other people's outsides"

I think this is turning into a materialism vs non-materialism thing...and it shouldn't. It's not about them having more expensive things than you...it's about them living the dream in LA. Where you aspire to live the dream in LA - but simply cannot do it yet.

The rich in LA seem to be living such a "cool" lifestyle opposed to being rich in any other major American city. This should make more sense now.

Dreams are subjective and personal.

But your observations are based on the material. A Ferrari is not a lifestyle. It is a thing. Admittedly Ferraris are nice but unless owning one is one of your dream scenarios I don't see anything else in it. For all you know, that Ferrrari driver you're eyeing may be living a life of misery.

[i guess while we're at it make mine an F355]

A flashy car is part of a "lifestyle".

There just seems to be something extra about having such things in LA, opposed to Houston.

A Ferrari in LA is no big deal.

It's because the wealth gap between rich and poor is huge in Los Angeles. More so than any other city in the country besides NYC. That's a statistical fact.

You're prancing around the Westside, which most native Angeleos stay away from, and you expect not to get that feeling?

You want nice but don't want to feel like an ant; go to Fairfax or Melrose. They're really nice minus the bougie-ness of Beverly Center.

The rich in LA flaunt their wealth without any remorse. In Houston, where I am from, the rich keep to themselves and do not flaunt their wealth. It's only when you flip through the pages of 002 Mag in Houston that you notice how rich they live.

Also, in LA the rich really care about upstaging one another, being the best looking in the room, so they really go for the grandest look possible. Whereas in other cities this is considered super shallow, and it is.

I love LA but the Westside really gets on my nerves. I mean I can afford to eat and play there, I have a great car, I am pretty stylish, but there is something about the trendyness there that irks me. An area FULL of poseurs.

If it's any consolation what so ever, the rest of the city does not take West LA (or sections I should say) seriously.

If you stay out of the west side you might as well live in Fresno and save the money.

Central LA, DTLA and East Hollywood >>>>>> West LA.

Get it right and knock off the uneducated little quips.
