Hi,
I've posted several times about moving from Dallas and wanting very badly to live in the Brentwood/Santa Monica area where I would then commute to Balboa in Northridge. And, have been counseled that the commute would be over an hour. When I post the route on "sigalert" which takes into account when you get on the freeway and get off (obviously not how long it takes to get to the freeway), it's telling me that in the morning...the drive from SM to the Roscoe exist off 101 takes 19 minutes (the reverse morning commute from Roscoe to SM takes about 40). Anyone shed light on this?

Thanks,
Linda

that's accurate. the 405 north from Santa Monica in the morning is a breeze.

Sig alert is pretty accurate.

I live in Westwood (405 + Wilshire) and I can tell you getting to [Roscoe + 405] takes some time. It varies greatly (way longer if there's a wreck/cops), but at 7pm, it's really bad. I have class off Roscoe every Thursday night up there.

Sigalert is pretty accurate for the most part AFAIK. Nothing is infallible.

There is another website that the California Highway Patrol has that also shows current incidents, so you can use that just before traveling to help plan your route. Here's the link:

Sigalert is a great tool. I use it all the time an have found it be be pretty accurate. Another tool is to use Windows Local Live Maps and click on the traffic. It will overlay the Sigalert info onto a map of LA. I find this easier to use than the actual Sigalert page.

Google Maps has traffic too.

los angeles, ca - Google Maps

Slightly unrelated but there's a web site called Google Earth Hacks which has traffic overlays (didn't see LA) and also flight delay overlays. Lots of other fun stuff for Friday afternoon power loafing....

There's also a live traffic link off latimes.com for Southern California freeways.

I live in orange county and several times find me in stopped traffic, looked on Sigalert and it showed nothing in one case and many other times showed normal traffic. The more I compare, the less I respect the information.

There might be a slight delay between what is displayed on the web or your android and what actual traffic is. What I do is have both Google Maps traffic AND sigalert on my android while I am driving.
