FYI My husband and I were looking at some open houses around NELA this weekend and earlier today I was reading some crime blogs about the area - that murder at the gold line station - it was at 2am first of all - and it was actually the result of an ongoing dispute between the victim and his cousin's boyfriend. (The murderer was eventually caught and arrested). It was NOT a random shooting. I was concerned about that at first also but then I read more of the details.

I lived in Glendale for about 6 years. My husband grew up there. We moved out to North Hills and bought a townhouse. It was a good starter home but now we are looking to move back to Burbank/Glendale/Eagle Rock area with our 11 month old daughter. I miss Glendale dearly. It is the type of place where you run into people you know. A true community. We would be walking down the street and my husband would be waved at by a local police officer he used to box with during a high school boxing program. Then we would go to the grocery store and we know the cashier because she has worked there for so many years. At the mall we would run into old friends. The local Chinese delivery man from the Mexican restaurant would ride past on his bike and wave to us. Etc. Etc.

We didn't have a car for many, many years and we got around on foot and by bus just fine. It has a small town feel (because it is!) and is a perfect mix of city and suburb (to this who think Glendale is a suburb you should see the master planned community I grew up in the outskirts of Houston!!!). It is a city where I would feel perfectly fine letting my kids walk to school or take the bus once they are older. (Burbank too - Burbank is a fantastic little town).

It is a big advantage to be in a separate city from L.A. with it's own city services, police, school district, etc. The quality of everything is much higher. I have been very impressed with Glendale P.D. in my past experiences with them. Glendale/Burbank will always be *home* to me (even more so then where I grew up in Texas) and I can't wait to come back to the area.

Best of luck!

I live in Atwater chevy chase park area. Glendale is just a 5 minute walk.

It's funny because I never thought of Glendale as a separate city. More of a neighborhood of L.A. I know it's a city on it's own but it never felt like it was too separate from L.A.

Glendale needs a light rail system. Surprised the cities skipped that. For both residents of NE LA and South Glendale. Be easier for me to go to school.. Well by the time it's done I wont need it for that anymore lol..
