Default Temporary places to stay in Los Angeles area (1 month-ish)

Hello everyone (first post here). I tried searching but didn't find anything on what I am looking for.

I am planning to move there within a year. While I am getting things in order here, in preparation for the move, I would like to come spend some time there to get used to the area, look at apartments, and look into opportunities for work. What I would like is to "rent" a place for a month or so, to not have the time pressure of a hotel stay. It could actually be anything from a hotel room to an apartment, I just don't want to pay daily hotel rates. I really would prefer not to stay with anyone as well. What I hope to do is simulate living there, in the lifestyle I hope to have when I move there.

About that lifestyle; I am not into material things. What I look for in a temporary or permanent place to live is peace and safety. My work is my life (custom automotive design and fabrication) and I don't care if I am in an empty room with nothing but an air matress and my laptop. I just need a nice peaceful place to rest and prepare for the next day - and a private bathroom!!!

I hope to permanently locate myself somewhere where I can walk or ride a bike for daily transport; and use my vehicle when I want to. If possible, I would like to simulate that in my visit as well.

As for price, when I move there I am thinking about a studio apartment for $1000-1200 a month; in a decent area. If I could pay around the same or less somewhere similar for a month that would be great.

Thanks in advance for any help...

Check out the Holiday Inn in downtown Burbank. It's clean and safe and rents by the week/month.

Try a Corporate housing search. Oakwood has furnished apartments all over the place.

It's right next to Burbank Town Center which is a walkable urban village. Nice place to live for a month.

This probably won't work for you but I thought I'd throw it out. Maybe a hostel?

Los Angeles Hostels Online - Hostels in Los Angeles at Hostels.com (broken link)

I stayed in a couple in San Francisco and Santa Cruz. Awesome. The Santa Cruz one was an 1890s Victorian Mansion near UCSC. The SF one was an old Army Fort. I rode my bike from SF to LA back in 1995 and hostels were like $7 per night. Cool interesting people from all over the world.

You guys, and this site, are awesome!!! I search through the lists of corporate housing places when I have time here and there; and am planning to call that Holiday Inn.

Hostels eh?!? That's a possiblility I had never considered. It's not "my thing" but I am open-minded enough to seriously consider it. More searching to do..

Thanks again.

I would highly recommend staying at the Marriott Residence Inn in Arcadia/Pasadena. It's a really nice property in a really nice area. Complete with kitchen! And they do have long term stay rates. I've stayed there several times over the past few years and have always enjoyed my stays. And they serve a complimentary breakfast buffet! It's a good spread too, not a "cheap" continental type at other hotels.

Check it out:
Arcadia California Hotel, Arcadia Lodging: Residence Inn Pasadena Arcadia.

When a friend of mine comes to LA for business he stays in a large pvt room with its own entrance/bath at this cozy home in studio city (close to Burbank). He usually stays for one or two months. The room had large window facing the backyard and with lots of citrus trees. For the month he was paying around $1,400 or so and that included taxes and all and with full access to a modern kitchen and all. Studio City is a very safe and upscale area.

House is located in a quiet, charming and very safe neighborhood and one block from Coldwater Canyon and Magnolia within walking distance to the Metro Orange LIne Bus and near Universal Studio. I think this is the email of the owner mpagan2419@aol.com

Good luck

El che
