The photo is looking north on Topanga Canyon and the photo was probably taken near Topanga and Dumetz or somewhere near there. The street with the white buildings on it from left to right is Ventura Boulevard. (By the way, Woodland Hills was called Girard back then. It was renamed WH after the WH Country Club which is about two blocks to the right of the immediate foreground of that photo.)
The big white building way out there, top center of the photo is Canoga Park High School (and at that time Canoga Park was called Owensmouth and CPHS was Owensmouth High School back then). I grew up a few blocks to the left of the top left corner of that photo. The name 'Owensmouth" came from the hopeful anticipation of Owens River water that would soon spill into the San Fernando Valley by way of the Los Angeles Aqueduct.

I believe that the wide area of the road is at the intersection of Topanga Cyn. and Ventura Blvd.

The domed building in the distance is the original Owensmouth Elementary School on Valerio St. and Topanga Cyn. Blvd.

The mountains directly to the north are the Santa Susana Mountains.

I'm pretty sure that the stand of trees in the distance to the right of the road is on Devonshire St.
These were Eucalyptus trees, and their primary funtion was as a windbreak, but they also provided shade during the hot Valley summers.

ETA: Just saw Charles' post, so that road is Ventura Blvd. The CPHS campus is now bordered by Hart St. and Vanowen, but the original, domed building was on Valerio, and the new HS was built on the current campus in 1916, to be followed by newer construction over the years.

Which was Canoga Park (or Owensmouth) High School before the buildings at Topanga and Vanowen were built.

See neat old photos here:

Canoga Park Senior High

(By the way, Vanowen is a contraction for Van Nuys and Owensmouth as it was a road linking the two towns.)

What about this photo?

Here's Ventura and Topanga looking east, 1922, downtown Girard.

Here are a couple of absolute gems. Hint: Both of these shots were taken from the same place but shot in different directions, in this case looking west in the first photo and looking east in the second photo.
