Although you are leaning toward Belmont Shore, here's a link to Playa Vista which is near Marina Del Rey on the westside of LA.

Despite jessemh431's bias against the place, it's a very nice, clean, and safe community that is full of young professional singles and couples of all racial/ethnic backgrounds.

Is this listing ok? price, building, area...

28 Cerritos Ave. -- Eastside

It's 28 Cerritos Avenue (90802), cross street is East Ocean Blvd.

i'm looking to move in the next couple of months and saw that listing. the only thing that struck me was how cheap it is for a 2 bedroom. made me wonder. i wouldn't expect a nice 2 bedroom in a nice area for less than $1350, although i'm really hoping my boyfriend and i luck out on one!!

It won't be so nice, clean, safe, and full of young professional singles and couples once it blows up.

You might also look at Altadena. It's further inland, but if you really want to find a black "chick" whose got her act together, Altadena has a nice population of those (along with Pasadena, etc.). Like someone else said, there are blacks all over LA. There are also a lot of people who aren't black who would like to date blacks -- so if you are open to that? There are lots of possiblities here.

I would caution you to stay away from Compton, Maywood and the area around the 110 freeway (not I-10, but the 110). There are a lot of murders there that are basically gang killings. They don't seem to look too closely at who they shoot, so a lot of college kids with no gang ties, etc. get killed. I would not go around there just as a safety precaution. The LA Times has something called the "Homocide blog" and there is a map plotting all the deaths in the L.A. area. If you look at it, you'll know where it isn't safe. Much of the crime is black on black or Latino on Latino when it comes down to gang crimes. It isn't cross-racial, so you have as much to fear (or more) from a black gangster than you do from someone of another ethnic group. You probably have MORE to fear from a black gangster. Keep that in mind when you move here. A white person isn't liable to kill you (this isn't the South) but a black gangster might.

That's the first time I've ever expressed it like that, but I suppose it is accurate. Others will correct me if I'm wrong.

You do not want to take the apt. on Cerritos. As you deduced, it is cheap for a reason. It used to be a nice area, but now has gone down hill. Very overcrowed, densely populated with apartment dwellers...lots of porch sales by the same people every weekend. I would not consider living there myself. Ever. I really recommend you stay towards the areas that I mentioned in my earlier posts. At the least, stay east of Junipero...
