Default Culver City area for single male

Hi all, I am a 26 year old black male from Atlanta, and I just got a job in L.A, which I will take. The job is located in the Culver City area and with the way traffic is in L.A., I want to keep my commute as short as possible. How is the Culver City area when it comes to safety, race relations, affordability? As a professional black male, which part of Culver City or nearby area would you most recommend? Thanks and I look forward to coming to L.A. soon

Congrats on your new job and welcome to LA. Culver City is a nice little city in the middle of LA. It's a good place to live and work for a single professional male. CC is also very diverse, racially and economically, as is LA in general, so I don't think you would feel uncomfortable there. In fact, coming from Atlanta, you might be surprised to see how racially integrated LA is by comparison.

Culver City is a nice place to live for a single guy. It is more affordable than Santa Monica and Beverly Hills, yet easy access to freeways. There are some nice condos and apartments off of Bristol, near Fox Hills Mall. Also, if you plan to buy a house, Ladera Heights is also a nice middle-class neighborhood in Culver City where there are lots of professionals and families. There is a good mix of black, Asian, and white residents there. Regardless, you should take a look around the neighborhood you want to live it since it can vary 2 blocks away.

ladera heights is not in culver city; it is in an adjacent unincorporated area. blair hills is a similar neighborhood that is part of culver city.

Ladera Heights is one of the most affluent black dominant neighborhoods in America.

Read about it on Wikipedia.

Ladera Heights, California - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I actually have a friend that lives there. The views are amazing from up there. He was some type of doctor and made a lot of money. With all the money he had, he chose Ladera Heights because he was black over places such as Santa Monica and Beverly Hills.

You would definitely feel very comfortable there, probably the most comfortable in all of LA, but I'm not sure if you can afford it.

Culver City itself is a nice area, but there are just a few areas that are a little iffy. Locals you know what I mean. Around the Tito's Tacos Area, Centinela and Culver intersection. Not being racist, but usually where you see lots of Hispanic markets, the area isn't so great.

If you give us a price range and the size apartment you would like, we can help you search for a place.

I used to live in Fox Hills & Ladera Heights and for a single black male Fox Hills is definately a cool place to live in especially since you will be working in Culver City(Your commute will be a breeze!). Great access to 405, 90, 105 and the 10(via La Cienaga if your headed downtown or via 405 if your headed to Santa Monica or PCH) and street access to West LA is great. You can't go wrong with this area, there is tons of shopping and recreation in the immediate area and for nightlife you can either drive to the beach cities of Hermosa or Redondo for some day or night time action or head to West Hollywood or Santa Monica or West LA. Your smack dab in the middle of everything in the LA basin and I wish I was moving back now ! Don't get me wrong Atlanta is cool but man...LA is LA! Sounds like the right move for you bro! If you want to upgrade in price check out Playa Del Rey or Marina Del Rey, you could take the 90 freeway to work and be in Culver City in no time as well. But essentially they are the same areas and I would go with Fox Hills over all of them.

Hi all, thank you so much for the advice. The Fox Hills area sounds intriguing, how is that area when it comes to rents, safety, race relations, etc? I can afford up to $1,500 for a one bedroom

There are some very nice apartments near fox hills and just South East of the Mall. Buckingham Parkway & Green Valley Circle. No problem with race relations.

it seems that black people moving here from elsewhere are always concerned about "race relations". why is that? outside LA, do we have a reputation for rampant racism of which i'm unaware? i live wherever i choose, within my means, and so do all of my black friends. if the neighbors don't like it, THEY can move, but no one has, as far as i'm aware. if anything, housing costs are causing more whites to move into areas where their neighbors are likely to be black or latino, than to flee them.

this place is so diverse and has been for so long that i really don't think that anyone who has a problem with the color of the person next door would choose to live here, in the first place. most people who are clean, considerate, and generally law-abiding just want neighbors who share those traits, whatever their color. if you can afford to live in a particular neighborhood, and will uphold the standards of the community, you shouldn't anticipate a problem.
