On January 1, 2013, I walked up Cielo Drive in Beverly Hills starting at Benedict Canyon Drive and ending up at the gates of Sharon Tate's old property.
In this video, you will see Cielo Drive, where the killers parked their car that night in 1969, where they walked, the telephone pole Tex Watson climbed to cut the wires to the house, the new gates and a very rare look at the property today.

I was a young police officer when my partner and I first visited that site in 1974 or so. Later, I revisited the site while the current mansion was under construction in the mid-1990's. The twin house was still there.

Recently I watched a documentary (hulu.com) on the Tate/Bianca murders...was that your film, George?

It was hosted by a Beverly Hills guy with interest in, and even a business, revolving around visiting/filming sites involved in famous, bizarre, celebrity incidents, while sharing info about the same.

He was filmed visiting this very site as well as the other places Manson & followers used as a "residence" and the front of the home where the LaBianca murders took place.

I admit to finding it fascinating...

This is a special tour, isn't it? I tried to visit the Tate residence once, but I think that it was gated and not accessible from Benedict Cyn or Coldwater? It looked like some kind of gated compound. I can't remember because it's been so many years. I drove by the LaBianca home last time that I was in Los Feliz, and even the dress shop that Rosemary LaBianca owned on Figueroa. Sadly, the dress shop was an empty lot and the LaBianca home was very gated and unrecognizable. I believe that the address was also changed.

Done the whole Manson (self guided) tour.

Saw the old actual Cielo murder house and original gate The Family scaled. Right nearby also in Benedict Canyon is fellow murder victim Jay Sebring's house, 9860 Easton Drive. The house used to belong to Jean Harlow in the 30's, and is where her husband Paul Bern committed his (cause debated) suicide. The LaBianca house still stands last I heard. Hike up near the Santa Susanna pass and you can still see the caves The Family hung out in. Nothing left of Spahn Ranch, although murdered Donald "Shorty" Shea's body is likely buried there.. Also there's 964 Old Topanga Rd where Gary Hinman was murdered.

Obviously this is a bit of a morbid fascination, but still very interesting. From a historical and cult perspective. I've also taken an interest in the Wonderland murders since the movie a couple years back. And the fact that a few of those involved even remotely still are alive and well today. Crazy stuff! Thanks for the walk through.

Yeah, L.A. has pretty much wrote the book on sensationally lurid crimes.

Manson + Black Dahlia
OJ + Robert Blake
RFK assassination
Nightstalker + Hillside Stranglers
Wonderland Murders

Plus all the countless celebrity deaths (MJ, Whitney, Joplin, Belushi, Monroe, etc, etc). Here's more on the Manson "sights": http://www.charliemanson.com/places/directions.htm

Default Night Stalker

I lived in Arcadia when Richard Ramirez, the Night Stalker, was murdering people. I had all our windows locked & was so terrified. Helicopters were hovering around the area, next thing I heard about was a murder in a neighboring town, I think it was in Monrovia. The woman who was murdered had her eyes cut out by the killer. That was horrendous! Eventually he was captured & clobbered by neighbors in the LA area.

Morbid, oh yes. Been up in Laurel Canyon exploring Wonderland, too. And saw the Janis Joplin and John Belushi O.D. sites. And Hollywood Forever Cemetery. And read Hollywood Babylon and checked out the numerous sites described within. And took a GraveLine tour in a hearse with a cut-out viewing roof.
