Long Beach Questions
Hi everyone.
Im moving to Cali with my boyfriend. It looks like the only area we can afford is Long Beach. Furthermore we are having problems because they are weight restrictions on dogs and we own a small toy poodle and tall Am staff. I am concerned with gangs and things of that nature. Any advise regarding both location and if there are any big dog friendly leasers.
Regards,
Z

Kind of a weird statement. LB is a huge city with very different neighborhoods. If you can afford to live in coastal LB you can probably afford to live anywhere in CA. At the same time, there are parts of LB on the other end of the spectrum. I would do a little more research. Living close to work is important in socal.

Its a Pitbull.
What made you guys decide on Long Beach? Will you be working in Long Beach? There are other nicer areas to consider but having two dogs may be a problem.
Try Apartments in Los Angeles California for Pets Dogs Cats Rental
or
Pet Friendly Rentals Los Angeles
It may be of some help to you in finding a pet friendly place. keep in mind, that a lot of people unfortunately, look at Pitbulls very negatively here so you may be challenged in finding a place that will accept him.

Long Beach is a city of 496,000 people, it's a small big city. There are bad areas, good areas, and mediocre areas. I don't know the city very well, but have heard Bixy Knolls(sp.), El Dorado Park Area, and parts near lakewood are nice. I know this much, stay away from Long Beach near Jordan high school, Long Beach Cabrillo High School, and where the 405 and 710 freeways meet. I hoped that helps, I hardly know much of anything about Long Beach. The city has Asians, Blacks, Latinos, Whites, each in heavy numbers.

Thanks for the Responses
Thanks everyone. My boyfriend found a place on Craigslist and sent them the deposit. Don't know where it is really but we are driving out there on Friday. It is month to month so we will test it out a see how it goes. I am from Hialeah Florida originally so I don't have any concerns living around people of ethnic backgrounds. My real concern was gang related, but just like here in Queens Ny you just have to be street smart.
Here is some info on the Am Staff for those that asked. I wish I could post pictures on this site of the two biggest babies I know. Yet, I don't know how.
They certainly get a bad rap but I have to say I get the funniest looks when I'm out walking a 10lb toy poodle and 65lb Am Staff.

The American Staffordshire Terrier is a happy, outgoing, stable, and confident dog. Gentle and loving towards people. Good-natured, amusing, extremely loyal and affectionate family pet. It is good with children and adults. Almost always obedient, this dog wants nothing more then to please its master. It is an extremely courageous and intelligent guard dog that is very full of life. Over the past 50 years, careful breeding has produced this friendly, trustworthy, dog who is an especially good dog for children. Courageous and a persistent fighter if provoked. Highly protective of his owners and the owner's property, it will fight an enemy to the death if the enemy traps the dog in a corner and threatens its loved ones. This breed has a very high tolerance for pain. Some un-socialized Staffs may be dog aggressive. Socialize very thoroughly when young to curve any dog aggressive tendencies. This breed can be difficult to housebreak. It has given outstanding results as a guardian of property, but is at the same time esteemed as a companion dog. When properly trained and socialized, the Staff makes a great family companion. This breed is not for the passive owner who does not understand that all dogs have an instinct to have a pack order.

No. It's not.
'Am Staff' is short for American Staffordshire Terrier.
