SKid ROW
Can an ordinary person walk down skid row and not expect to be harmed?
I mean One would expect panhandling begging etc, but how violent has it been for regular patrons?
anybody?

Skid row is not a violent place, its smells and is dirty really quite sad what you'll see BUT doubt you have a physical confrontation. You could be verbally harassed for money

I've never been to Skid Row, but it sounds like you may be harassed for money, but not physically attacked.

It's safe to walk through. You may not even be harassed for money. It's right next to the toy district downtown.
I should clarify this: It's safe to walk through IN THE DAYTIME! I don't know if I would want to do it at night, particularly not on the very "lonely" streets.

There's no reason to go unless you're exploring, it's not on the way to anything unless you know someone who just bought a Little Tokyo Loft. If you are exploring, go in the daytime, go at least in pairs and don't stare.

#1 golden rule- NEVER MAKE EYE CONTACT. This has worked for me in every major city, except Chicago, they are downright relentless panhandlers there.
