The city filed a lawsuit Friday against the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) in an effort to prevent Metro from tunneling under Beverly Hills High School.
The lawsuit alleges that the FTA’s decision to make the Westside Subway Extension eligible for funding from Washington violated federal laws. City officials seek to make the federal government withhold funding for the project until an adequate environmental impact statement can be prepared.
The suit filed in federal court contends that the FTA relied on the same flawed Environmental Impact Statement and environmental approval process that the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) used when it approved the subway route under Beverly Hills High School.

Has the scent of NIMBYISM to me. Got to keep those working class proles from wandering to far into where the rich people live and away from their property.

Yeah, pretty much that is the main reason. To BH folks, metro = ghetto types.
Rich city, using their money and some law to have it their way, not that I care either way.

Interesting how rich people in Manhattan don't seem to mind living near subway stations...they prefer it.

Meh, they are going to lose anyways. I just hope it doesn't delay the construction - it shouldn't since the alignment in question is Phase III and work doesn't get started for almost a decade.

I also hope they don't really go bananas and try to stop the Phase I which has its temporary terminus technically in the BH borders (La Cienega / Wilshire). There have been hints that the Courier is ready to start a war on two fronts with this portion being their next target. It's starting to seem like Beverly Hills brass are straight-up against the subway (despite their claims to be "for" it), though it is hard to tell because you can see at this point they are in a tizzy and are just opposing every single thing the Metro does.

I really hope the citizens of BH hold Mirisch and the school board personally responsible when this fails. What they are doing for a handful of citizens is literally criminal in my opinion.

The funny things is I couldn't care less about the alignment. They could stop around the Miracle Mile for all I care
