Hi, it's me again.
i was wondering if there are plenty waitressing jobs in the valley and if there are a lot of fine dining places to work at. Also is it hard to gain employment as a waitress in the valley. i am very experienced and have fine dining experience, knowledgeable in cocktails, martinis, and wines.
thank you in advance.

I think you could. Experience helps. There was a poster on here whose sister was in town for two weeks and needed to land a waitressing job in those two weeks in order to live here, and she did. I have 6 years of experience in a similar field and had no trouble landing a job.

However those are the rare happy stories. But you will be ahead of so many people if you come with a marketable skill. And having at minimum a few years experience in anything is going to help you so much. I would still be without a job if I hadn't had that.

i have waited on tables for many years, fine dining and the usual chain restaurants where i was a trainer. i will be moving with an associates degree in computer sciences and i will be continuing my education probably online once i get to los angeles and get a job and settled in. i am 30-34 credits shy of my bachelors in computer science but i want to waitress for the flexible hours and the fast cash.eventually i will look for an entry level position in my field, networking, even technical support entry level.
but i am actually looking forward to waiting tables and taking a short break from school.
thank you for your help, i appreciate it.

Theres not exactly a ton of fine dining places in the SFV.

Maybe you want to look at the nicer places along Ventura Bl. Maybe also some of the hotels in Woodland Hills, Universal City, and Burbank have nice restaurants.

There may be more work just over the hill in Hollywood, which is not far or difficult to drive too.

thank you john. and since you have mentioned woodland hills, i was looking and saw that there are quite a few apartments for rent there and the cost was pretty cheap, they seemed cheaper than the cost of rent in the valley for a studio at least. how far is woodland hills from the valley and how long would it take to drive into the heart of the valley?
do you think woodland hills is nice area? i did see that it is close to ventura blvd and i will look there for waitress work. would you prefer woodland hills over the south area of van nuys? your honest opinion please.
i happened upon woodland hills while searching for motels and found a cheap motel the knights inn off ventura blvd. my friend suggested i stay at the motel 6 on supulveda but after i read the reviews i did not want to stay there. also when i will be arriving the cost of rooms will be cheaper and the knights inn was the exact price as motel 6 but the knights inn looked a whole lot cleaner and nicer.
thank you for your help.
