I've noticed that homes are a bit cheaper in Pomona. How does the neighborhood rate compared to Chino Hills, Yorba Linda and Brea?

Pomona is on a gang violence streak right now. A bunch of kids have been shot and killed/hurt within the past month or so. It's crazy.

On the plus side, Pomona has a Metrolink station.

I'm around Pomona. It is not that bad, especially the richer area in south of Pomona such like Phillips Ranch.

I don't think everywhere in Pomona is gang violence. I grow up around Pomona area, is really not that bad if compared that to Los Angeles. I thought Los Angeles gang crime is much worser than Pomona.

I think you better stick with Brea, they are rich people up there with high price house. Or try Montclair, Montclair is next to Pomona and Montclair is very good, safe area.

Pomona is only slightly less expensive than areas like Fullerton and Brea, from the comments above it does not seem like Pomona is worth the asking prices for starter homes ($400-450k)... I also noted that Pomona is quite a bit further out from Brea but not that much cheaper.

To ducviloxi,
Now you write the price, then I can guarantee you that who ever want to sale you the house is ripping you off. No way, no way Pomona house is worth $400-$450k, even in better neighborhood area like Phillips Ranch doesn't cost that much. A very nice homes I see in Pomona are at the price of $200-$250k, that is the right price, and that is nice nice homes.

I'm not expert on this, be honest, I'm poor all my life. I live in low income apartments area, so maybe someone else can help you on this. But for sure with the price you list $400-$450, that is too high, they ripping you off. Don't buy it, look in Brea, you get much nicer place up there with better neighborhood and safe area.

It has an upscale area known as Phillips Ranch. It is still part of the city, whatever its residents might think or say.

Chino Hills is good. The surrounding of Pomona is good, such as Chino Hills, Ontario, Montclair, Diamond Bar, La Verne, San Dimas, Rancho Cucamonga are very nice area. Give a try at Rancho Cucamonga, but the house there might be pricey, since rich people mostly there. San Dimas is nice too, try search for houses around there.

May I ask, have you been down here in these areas before? Maybe drive down here for a weekend and see the town. Your nickname say Location: Whittier, CA. I thought Whittier is pretty nice area.
If you think about buy a house, ever think about Texas, lol. I heard many house there are very very cheap, and very good house too, and Texas have a lot of land too, not crowded.

Chino Hills is very nice, Phillips Ranch is also nice. If you live in Whittier I would suggest driving around these areas. One drive through Pomona and I'm pretty sure you will no longer be interested in living there.

Claremont is also a nice neighborhood, as is Glendora or La Verne.
