The Wilshire Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project is intended to further improve bus passenger travel times, service reliability, ridership of the existing Wilshire BRT system, and encourage a shift from automobile use to public transit.

The project spans approximately 12.5 miles along Wilshire Bl from Valencia St on the east (slightly west of the I-110 Freeway) to the Santa Monica city line at Centinela Av.

Here we go again. They were both implemented and removed in 2005 I believe, but for some reason, they're back.

typical uninformed Westside mentality.

Link to them being installed and removed in 2005? Never heard that before.

Its only going to help traffic, actually. Busses are one of the biggest reasons traffic on LA's surface streets is so heinous. It'll be painfully obvious when Wilshire's worst stretches are in Santa Monica, Condo Canyon and Beverly Hills.

The article says the initial phase is only 1.6 miles long from S. Park View to Western. Converting a traffic lane on that stretch of Wilshire to a bus-only lane from 7am-7pm will make a terrible commute even worse. Ya sure, this is going to make traffic better along Wilshire...

The construction will have a negative impact, yes.

As far as when they are installed, I'd love to see the evidence ya'll have that it is going to negatively impact traffic flow (other than the proven-fallacy of more lanes = better traffic flow). Lots of cities all over the country have bus-only lanes on their major arteries, and it works fine (and improves traffic). Why is Los Angeles such a special circumstance that it won't work?

In this thread I did not provide a link to anything occurring in 2005. Perhaps you should improve your reading comprehension skills before casting aspersions.

Wrong, which is why they were previously removed.

So by your logic, removing buses altogether would remove the biggest traffic problem; no, I do believe the problem is the number of vehicles on the road, irrespective of what exact type they are.

Like it was in 2005? Oh wait, it was a disaster for most commuters back then, so I can't imagine why anything now would be better.

No you need to post a link about bus-only lanes being removed in 2005. It never happened, you are making that up.

The lanes are bus only during rush hour. So 7-9 am and 4-7 pm.
If you are so concerned take Olympic.

The OP has some serious cognitive dissonance going on. According to the OP, the biggest issue with LA traffic is the number of cars on the road yet OP is b*tching about a project that will help make non car-commuting quicker and more desirable, likely taking cars off the road. So silly.

Sounds like they had them in Santa Monica. So you are half correct. It appears that selfish or stupid car-drivers clogged the lanes and hat rendered them ineffective. Proper enforcement is necessary for them to be effective.

According to Streetsblog, more people commute by bus on Wilshire than car at peak periods. Sounds like you car commuters just need to suck it up. I don't think eliminating a lane on Wilshire is going to make it that much worse, and I think may make traffic flow more efficient

The bus lanes should have been here long ago. Most if not all the cities I lived in have them. I have never lived in a city where so many bash public transportation. We'll see how the 405 Sepulveda Pass expansion improves traffic flow.

Right...just like the diamond lanes on the freeways incentivizing people to carpool. Those lanes are just jammed full of carpoolers during rush hour...
